Car has been consuming oil at an unreasonable rate with no noticeable smoking or leaking, and I first took notice in October. I typically top off at least 1/2 quart if not more every 500 miles or so. Between October-February there were no issues besides topping of oil. Oil pressure light came on one night (February 18 2022) after about a 25 min highway drive just as i was about to pull into my house. Checked oil and it was halfway between high/low point on dipstick. Regular mechanic noted I should go to dealer to have them document. Scheduled appointment with dealer for 2/21/22 about a mile or less from my home. They checked oil and noted oil pressure light was not on when I brought it there. They said they would do a "diagnostic" test which ended up being them checking the oil, looking for any obvious leaks, and then changing the oil with OEM parts. Nothing else checked, cost around $150 plus the oil change (~$40).

On 2/26/22 when I went to pick up my car after being notified the testing was done, I asked why nothing else was checked and was told "taking engine apart" would incur additional cost. I was also told that using non OEM oil filter etc. was the cause of concern for this issue. They noted there were no check engine codes showing when scanning (check engine light has never been on...) After reiterating my concerns regarding the motor ceasing up, etc. while driving on the highway and potentially causing an accident, we agreed to do oil consumption test where I return every 1000 miles to have oil checked. Was told I have an extended powertrain warranty for my particular motor (I am 2nd owner of car so original warranty was expired). I was also told Hyundai will not entertain replacing motor or repairing until it's documented that the oil loss is occurring. I began to check the oil weekly and reducing my driving besides to work and back and essential errands. On 3/29/22 went for my first check up at just about 700 miles into my oil consumption test. Techs checked and topped off, about a quart low. Even the service advisor mentioned that was odd being so low after such short mileage.

I am planning to take my car in again today, prior to the 2000 mile mark of oil consumption test because it is low on oil. I see that there is a class action suit being filed as of April 2022, however my particular year of Hyundai Tucson is not included which I find strange (it skips from 2013 to 2015). I wish I would have done more research prior to purchasing this car. I still owe on it, am a middle class person working two jobs, and i'm worried that the motor will go up and Hyundai will find a reason not to honor the warranty.
