Car would not shift into park. I could not even shift into reverse so that I could swing my car out of my driveway. I had to shift backward in neutral, thankfully my driveway has a slight incline and then drove around the block.

I thought the drive would re-set the issue. It did not. I had to "release" the shift by sticking a metal nail file into the shift lock release located in the same area. I pulled out the file at the same time pushing on the gear shift and the gears released into Park. This was a Friday and I drove the car all weekend. It happened again during the weekend, but was more easily fixed.

A slippery roads light keeps appearing on my dashboard. The weather has been very clear and dry. This light has been appearing and disappearing a lot since the 1st incident.

This shift locking problem can be a major safety issue especially if the car is on an incline. This happened when my car was on an incline and I tried to shift from reverse to drive and would not budge. This can really be nerve-wracking if you're stuck with other cars behind you and the car won't move. I guess that for emergency purposes, always have a slotted screwdriver available in the car in case the shifter needs to be unlocked and released. PAIN IN THE YOU KNOW WHAT, but more concerned with safety issues.
