Since I took delivery of this vehicle from new there has been a problem with the rear wheels when turning the car in a circular motion whilst in two wheel drive (it also occurs whilst in 4 wheel drive). I have mentioned this at both its previous yearly services but was advised this was a standard problem for this particular model vehicle.
Basically what is happening is that when it is turned through a circle (both right and left - forward and backwards) the rear wheels intermittently lock into place whilst the front wheels continue to turn. The rear wheels then quickly spin on the spot to catch up with the forward motion of the vehicle repeatedly as the vehicle continues through its turn.
It only seems to happen when manoeuvring the car slowly which as you can imagine makes parking the car at the roadside between two other vehicles extremely difficult and doing a three point turn is a nightmare as the car keeps shunting forward/backwards.
You can see this clearly happen when turning around on an unmade surface when the rear wheels repeatedly leave numerous churn marks in the soil as the car progresses through its turn.
vehicle does not do this action. In addition I have shown what happens to a mechanic friend and he seems to think the problem is with the rear differential, what he believes is happening is that the rear differential is not doing the job it was designed for this being ensuring that the inner wheels (which have to travel less distance in a turn) keep pace with the outer circle wheels (travel further distance).
Have asked Hyundai about this problem on each service but they refuse to accept that this is a problem saying that some cars have this problem and some don't!!
