Secondhand car I have driven 6 times, and this has happened twice. Put the key in, some dash lights come on but nothing happens when the key is turned.
The first time, I kept trying to start it (turning the key again) but it wouldn't so I called the local mechanic who took the battery away and put it on charge for two days. When the replacement battery was put in, the car started as soon as the key was turned. But there was nothing wrong with the old battery once it was returned. Again, the car started as soon as the key was turned.
Second time, we were 4 WD driving remote from anywhere and no mobile phone signal. Some dash lights come on but nothing happens when the key is turned. We kept trying, turning the key, locking and unlocking the car, and after several minutes of doing these things it started.
My regular mechanic says he can't diagnose a problem unless it's happening at the time, fair enough.
What can I do?
