While driving I lost power and a loud warning siren went off with a warning message on dash " STOP Do not drive System not charging ". Thankfully I was only 2 blocks from home so I kept driving and the power was very erratic and the car was difficult to handle. I parked the car in my drive, shutting it down. I waited a few minutes and started it up and the warning lights were still on, but the motor seemed to be running smooth. I let it run in Park for about 5 minutes and shut it down again for good that day. The next day I started it up and the warning light was off and the car was driving normally. I have been driving around town very gingerly now for about a month to see if I could duplicate the problem. I refuse to take it out on a highway at higher speeds, because if this happens again and I loose power suddenly when I may need it to enter or exit from hi-speed traffic; this would be a REAL SAFETY issue which I think Hyundai should be concerned with.
I called my local dealer and explained all this and the service manager said he doesn't recall any similar problems and it would be difficult to diagnose without the the warning going off and suggested I leave it with him a couple of days to drive to see if the problem re-occurs, but I told him I've been driving it for a month and the car has been absolutely normal. I called Hyundai corporate and they also said they haven't heard of this before and gave me the same advice of the service manager. I am not going to leave this car with them, so they could tell me that there is nothing wrong. This is my fifth Hyundai vehicle and may be the last.
