Vehicle began making a rattling noise on on slow engine acceleration and deceleration while running on engine NOT EV mode. Took it to dealer who initially misdiagnosed it as serpentine belt tensioners. After speaking to General Manager did not have to pay for the new tensioners installed. Long story. But they admitted that the problem is the CVVT. They want to replace both CAMS, timing chain, chain guides, and tensioner. ($2000). No thank you. Changed oil to Castrol GTX high mileage 5W20. A remarkable improvement. I believe prior owner had bad oil change habits and tensioner may be clogged with oil deposit. Hoping oil will loosen clog if any. Thinking of DIY. Video's are basically like replacing timing chains. I've replaced timing belts on other vehicles. Hardest part is supporting vehicle engine underneath. Motor mount and alternator needs removing by timing chain cover and crank gear. The rest is to be careful to observe chain and gear markings. Chain cover has no gasket-only sealant is used. Torque Cams. Any suggestions from other DIY'ers?
