Driving 2023 Sonata N line 2.5T/DCT 40-45mph over somewhat bumpy road the CEL illuminated. The screen sez too high sensor voltage & radar malfunction. Roughly 1/2 mile later power dropped to almost nothing. Pulled over stopped engine restarted and the power/DCT resumed to normal function. This appears to be the same as the DCT recall of 2021/2022. [HMA Recall 236: 8 Speed DCT- Loss of Motive Power - Remedy Not Available November 4, 2022.] CEL pops up & 20-30 sec later power shuts down. There was enough power to move at single digit, 3-5 MPH, to pull off the road. I used bluelink to set up appointment w/dealer. Service appointment was two days later.
My code-reader shows P0653 listed twice. Later on thru My Hyundai account shows P065312. CEL turned off when I started the car for the trip to the dealer. I also noticed the radar function working on the drive. They cleared the code history. They disconnected the battery as I noticed some of my settings had changed. They fixed nothing claimed some unknown gremlin in line of 5V sensors was at fault. Even though I described the shutdown of power they didn't mention the seemingly similarity to Recall 236. The invoice: Cel on now off P0653, history code cleared operates as normal.
Ninety mile round trip, but I have it documented in case something else happens down the road. It would seem drastic action, losing power 20-30 sec later, for such a minor generic code that cleared itself after several cycles.
Update from Mar 24, 2024: Same illuminated CEL/limp mode at 2991mi. P0653 [2 0f 2 on my code reader] 2115mi after the first set of P0653[Hyundai version P065312]. Once again it wants me to check the radar unit and claims seven different items/systems effected. I'm driving on an improved gravel road around 40mph which is rather noisy. So, I heard no audio alert of impending limp mode in 30-45secs.
When I noticed CEL pressed throttle, but already limp mode. Same ole detail: stop, select Park, turn off, restart & proceed as usual. Code Reader saw same as before and cleared the two, but separate same codes. BlueLink sends email w/time & date of incident. Under 3K miles happened twice. Both incidents I'm barely on the throttle around 40mph w/no other traffic around.
