Failed Component: Engine - Burnt Valve/ Snapped Piston/ Piston Scrapping Internally; available for inspection - Risk of safety: Car sputters/jerks upon acceleration, takes a long time to gain speed, STALLS when slowing or stopping, may or not start after stalling, violently shakes while driving - Problem has been confirmed by Hyundai dealer/repair - Component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative; only Hyundai repair - Warning lamp, messages, and symptom PRIOR to failure, NO, after the failure, YES; check engine light and all symptoms listed above; all appeared approximately September 15, 2024. Since the purchase of the vehicle in January 2024, I have made complaint regarding the performance of the vehicle. Have had multiple oil changes/fill ups within the last 7 months, due to excessive oil consumption. Vehicle has had scheduled maintenance, several diagnostics, and too many trips to the dealership/repair for a 5 year old vehicle, with regular maintenance, and 3 owners. I have owned the vehicle for less than a year and I am UNABLE TO DRIVE IT DUE TO HYUNDAI STATING IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. It stalls when slowing and stopping, which it may or may not start back up - this happened a few times in the middle of traffic. It will not gain speed appropriately when moving from a complete stop, inhibiting me from keeping up with traffic. It shakes violently while accelerating, causing mishandling and ability to steer effectively.
I have had to change my spark plugs 3 times since May due to the fact that I keep getting oil in them. My car also goes through an excessive amount of oil. Within 2 weeks of having my oil changed I had to start adding more oil. But it does not ever have any on the ground under my car. My piston oil rings are not keeping oil out of the area where my spark plugs are located.
2019 white Hyundai Sonata has same paint peeling issue as 2017-2018 Sonata. Two different locations on the Sonata started peeling. The paint recall needs to be extended to 2019 model.

I was on a weekend Road trip and my driver's side wheel bearing went out. My car was at 56,000 miles at the time. I was 2 hours away from home and the dealership was closed. I went to a local licensed/certified mechanic who verified it was dangerous to drive with a broken bearing. They then fixed it for me so we could safely arrive at our destination. I was still covered under power train warranty. I was told if I had it inspected by the Dealership and it was verified it was done correctly I would be reimbursed. It was inspected and verified, but they decided they won't reimburse me anyway. They said it wasn't a recall. Yet the bearing is supposed to be good for 85k to 100k miles and it broke at 56k miles.
The hybrid power system has stopped all together twice while driving once back in May 2021 and again in December 2022, the car has just under 50,000 miles. Both times this has happened the car was actively being driven, and has caused us to pull over on the side of the highway because there is no warning beforehand, everything from the power steering to the gas goes out. It-??s terrifying and unsafe for anyone in the car but also near it when it happens.
This is not a safety issue but I feel it need to be recognized my vehicle is peeling paint from on top of roof and I see this happening on numerous amount of Hyundai Sonatas and Hyundai are not addressing the problems and I am still making payments on my car I want this displayed to make everyone aware this is a complete rip off on hyundia's behalf I hope to never purchase a vehicle from any Hyundai's company ever again they will have you going from one person to the next
The issue is UNKNOWN. On may 23,2023 I exited my car-?? maybe less than 10 minutes returned to car to go on with my day pressed the start button and it burst into flames.
This vehicle was bought brand new from West Broad Hyundai in Richmond, VA. I was financing this vehicle had it for almost two years before it was stolen. The police said it was a couple of teenagers. I lost thousands of dollars almost 2 years worth of car payments. I think Hyundai should be accountable because they nevar notified me these vehicles were easily stolen. I lost two years of car payments. I still owe 1,000 to Capital One because my insurance company didn-??t fully payoff this loan. Please help: I lost allot of money had to come up with a down payment for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. This vehicle has the same problem with it can be easily stolen. Unknown. This has happened a couple times now. I am driving and the HEV light, engine light and battery light turn on, car won-??t brake properly and almost cause me to hit other cars and will shut off on its own on the highway. It will accelerate on its own even when trying to brake. Extremely dangerous.
My vehicle was stolen from in front of my home. The "alarm" did not sound or go off at all. The area where my key should enter was removed, vandalized, and then an iphone charger was used to start my car via a USB port that is located somewhere within that area. Apparently, this is a tictok trend that has been in the works for a while and targets Hyundais.Yet, there has been no response from Hyundai to recall Sonatas or Elantras to remedy this issue. Now I am being forced to pay for repairs on a vehicle that was used for illegal activities and again have to place my family in. I do not feel safe in this situation and I am most likely privy to fall victim again until this issue is resolved.
When accelerating, the vehicle automatically hesitates and loses power. This happens when pulling out from complete stops as well as moving slowly to passing other vehicles. The tachometer still shows power but the brakes depress and there is no power to the vehicle and it hesitates feeling as if the ABS are kicking in. In order for it to resolve itself you have to let it run its course. The service departments at the dealer have felt it but can-??t pinpoint an answer.
The touch screen radio is ineffective when tuning to siriusxm. It just sits on updating and nothing else you press works. I have had multiple mechanics look at it, pulled fuses, resets and nothing fixes the issue. From research online it appears this has been an ongoing issue for years with Hyundai touch screens. They say there's nothing they can do, but I literally just bought the car.
Aeb system does not function at all. Will not detect vehicle in front of me nor detect a pedestrian. It gives no stage 1,2 or 3 warnings while in motion on city streets or highway. I have contacted the Hyundai headquarters and have yet to resolve this concern.
Twice within two months my vehicle that I am currently leasing has stalled and not accelerated after being stopped at a stop light. Both times with taking the car to get looked at the dealership has pushed me out the door without truly taking ample time to figure out what the issue is and more disappointing and disturbing the 2nd time they only solution to me telling them I no longer feel safe driving it without finding a solution to the issue and fixing it was for me to start an entirely new 3 year lease with the same year model and make but unbelievably with higher car notes. To me this was a disrespectful slap in the face to say the heck with living up to our warranty standards and instead let's try and make another sales deal. The most recent time the car stopped working while in drive and left me dangerously stranded in an intersection.
I purchased this vehicle brand new with only 18 actual miles on the car around 6/14/19. During a call to dealership customer service call I was advised there was a software update that needed to be completed (service campaign 953 - ECM & cluster update-engine monitoring logic product improvement). Service was completed within 4-5 days before service campaign was closed. Within one week later was driving vehicle and bell went off and displayed two message on the instrument cluster. Three indicator lights were frontal collision avoidance, warning indicator and epb indicator activated. After arriving at destination I was going to back vehicle into a parking spot and noticed the rear camera not working. After getting back in car and leaving, the instrument cluster and camera was back to normal operation. Next day returning home from work the same incident occured a second time. This time noticed after putting the vehicle in park and not turning vehicle off, then trying to put vehicle in drive, the gear shifter would not come out of park until vehicle is turned off. Took to dealership and vehicle was showing several codes. Hyundai was contacted and was advised to have software reboot. This worked for close to a week then happened a third time within 403 miles since service campaign was completed at 7514 miles.
