The engine died!! At only 127,000 miles! So of course it wasn't covered by warranty, and we didn't have all of the oil changes done at the dealership (we did a lot of them ourselves but didn't think to keep the receipts, though I doubt Hyundai would have even cared), so there's little to no chance of Hyundai covering it under their Goodwill Department, and I'd have to have the engine replaced and paid for before I would even find out if Hyundai would cover it (which sounds like it is very unlikely), so we will not be doing that. Really frustrating that this car broke after less than 130k miles. The specific issue was 'no compression in cylinder 3', and the shop we took it to says that Sonatas (especially around this year) are notorious for going out this way.
Anyway. Now we have to finish paying it off, try to sell it for parts, and buy a new car, when we were expecting this car to take us to the high 100's at least! I don't think we will be buying Hyundai again anytime soon.
Had this car for 4.5 years, bought it BRAND new!!! Already have had to replace the alternator, fuel pump, and battery. On Friday, July 21, 2023, while I was driving on the highway, the check engine started flashing and the car started losing speed considerably. Took it to Midas and they told me that the engine was burning an excessive amount of oil; hence why it was barely going over 40 mph; then took it to the dealership closest to my house, and they told me that were backed up for 3 MONTHS with other car owners having the SAME ISSUE!!! Plus, they were out of loaners, so now I have pay out of pocket to rent a car to get to work.... SO disappointed with Hyundai at the moment!!!!!
P.S: Fortunately, my warranty covers the damage, but it's SO frustrating!!!!!
Engine seized due to connecting rod bearing failure. According to a mechanic, this is a huge problem with these engines because Hyundai uses super cheap crappy bearings. It should have been covered under warranty extension, but an unrelated recall had not been fixed and I didn't even know about it but regardless, this gave them a loophole and they would not pay to fix or replace my engine.
Bought new 2018 Hyundai Sonata. Dealer installed update and after 25 miles the engine went bad. Hyundai has the car for 3mo. now and still not repaired. Today they said it might need a new wiring harness. {3 MONTHS} No results. Want a new car! You agree??
