My car has cut off in the middle of the highway and street. I feel vibration under my seat and I was unable to start my vehicle. Hyundai repaired my engine and I am still having the same issues. The car feels like it-??s slowing down before is completely stops.

About 3 weeks ago I had just left my house, battery fully charged and gas tank full. I was coming down a hill to a stop sign and started braking. Suddenly the car seemed to lose power and essentially stopped moving. There was an error on the dash saying "hybrid system failure". There was barely able enough power to slowly pull the car over to the side of the road. I turned off the car and checked the battery in the trunk - I didn't see any obvious concerns. My husband got there 10 minutes later and we tried turning the car on again. It came on fine but there was an engine warning light. We were able to drive it without difficulty back to my house. I was unable to get a timely appointment at my local Hyundai dealer, so a couple days later My husband drove it to a local garage to see if they could figure out what the problem was. When he turned the car on again the engine light was no longer on. However, at the garage they were able to pull up a history of the car alerts and it confirmed that it said hybrid system failure. I have done some research online and it sounds like there was a recall on Hyundai sonatas hybrids for 2017 but I did not see a recall for the plug-in version of the hybrid. I searched online, however, and there were many other owners of Hyundai sonata plug-in hybrids that reported the same incident. I am hoping that a recall gets is issued for the plug-in hybrid as well so that more owners don't have the same problem. If I had been driving on the highway at 65 mph in a middle lane and my engine suddenly lost power it could have been fatal. Oh - one other recent problem I had that I'm not sure is related is that my car recently started losing electric miles very quickly. From the time it was purchased until a few months ago, it was losing plug-in miles at about 1 mi per year (i.e. each year a fully charged battery gave me 1 mile less). Then about 6 months ago it started losing electric miles very quickly - about 1/mo. Dealer said it was normal aging.

In May, the engine completely failed as I was driving on the freeway, without cause. It had to be towed to the dealership where luckily the engine was replaced under warranty. Less than 6 months later, the HEV and CEL warning lights came on as I was commuting to work via highway. The car was very low powered, hard to accelerate, and immediately decelerated whenever I started to let off the gas pedal. It struggled to go at or above 60-65 mph. The freeway speed was 70 mph and it was a safety risk for the car to power down. Dublin Hyundai could not replicate the problem, simply recharged the battery and said I was good to go. Less than 1 week later, the exact same thing happened as I started on a road trip. I had to return the car home and get it towed to Stockton Hyundai for diagnosis. This is car is only 6 years old, has been routinely maintained, and just hit 100k miles, for which Hyundai is denying any repair assistance even though there is a lifetime hybrid battery warranty.

I first experienced HEV hybrid system issue back in 2022. I took my sonata to the dealership which they had over a month to try to fix the problem which they did for the time. Now a year later I-??m back with the same issues and the dealer basically saying they can-??t see my car for a month then don-??t know how long it-??s going to take to fix the issues if the even. Nobody can really tell me what-??s wrong with my car. This the second time it-??s been a safety hazard while driving on the interstate and the system malfunctions causing a hazard to me and drivers around me because the vehicle has basically cuts off rapidly slowing the vehicle down

This issue has happened twice in one month on my Hyundai sonata hybrid that I-??ve had for less than 3 years. It is a 2017 model. While driving on the interstate, the car will stop accelerating and all warning lights will come on along with -??Check hybrid engine. Turn off engine-??. The dealership has yet to find out the problem and cannot tell me what the issue is both times I-??ve brought it in (it-??s had ti be towed both times). I cannot afford to keep paying for repairs on an almost new car along with the safety concerns of driving it. I am attaching pictures of both times it happened- noting that it is the same warning each time. It looks like multiple owners are having this issue and none has yet to be resolved.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Sonata that has had 3 recalls. I purchased the car in 2019 and all three recalls have been issued after 2019. Since I-??ve had the car I-??ve never taken it to Hyundai to get the recalls taken care of. Until recently I took my car to get the recalls fixed and they told me they had already been taken care of. The gave me the dealers contact information and I-??ve never taken my vehicle to them they claim to have serviced my car at 122000 miles and I only have 94000 miles in my car. I believe they used my vin number to summit they fixed the recalls when my vehicle was never at their dealer. I contacted Hyundai and have not received any call back. The recalls for my vehicle are very serious recalls that I need to get fixed. One of them is the malfunctioning of the trunk latch my trunk does not open or close right now. I have a 6 month old baby and I need to put her stroller in trunk and I-??m unable to do so. Also my car vandalized twice they tried to steal it. I need the security update. I just don-??t know who I need to contact to help me get this resolved.

My 2017 Hyundai is not listed on the recall for excess oil consumption and I am trying to find out why it is not included. I have to add oil every week to my car and have to change the spark plugs every couple of months. I would simply like to know why my 2017 Hyundai Sonata is not included on the recall as well as how I can get it included since it is one of the Sonatas with the excess oil consumption problem. Thank you very much for your time and consideration of this matter.

Several weeks ago, the trunk would not open. The latch was determined to be defective. I paid for a repair and replacement at a local garage. I had discovered there was a recall but phone calls to the dealership service department were not returned. I paid $149.79 for the part and part of $150 labor charge to replace the trunk latch. Can I get a reimbursement for this part replacement and labor to repair?

I have financed my Hyundai Sonata Sport 2017 in December of 2019. I have not had any issues until this current year of 2023. I have noticed that with every oil change that I receive that I would have to go back to the dealership or certified mechanic a month or two earlier. I personal checked for leaks but seen no signs of why I had to get constant oil changes. Recently, when driving on the highway speed limit at 70 mph and my car went to 60 mph. The engine light came on but no other warning. I stopped the car, check the oil level which was pretty low and topped it off. I let the car sit for a short while as I was only 5 mins away from home. Soon as I made it back, I check the oil level again which was in the line. Check for visible leaks. I figured my car shook as it did and idle at the speed do to a misfire with the spark plugs/coils which I had already replaced 2 months prior to the incident. I was able to use a car scanner from AutoZone to check for codes but there wasn't an engine light at all on the dashboard. There was only one code that did show which was P1326 but no engine light or flashing engine light. I then schedule an appointment for an oil change and to confirm that the engine light code was with Firestone Auto Care to analyze the issue. They did an overall check over on the car, checked for codes, and changed the oil in which they found no issues. With driving my car to test if there were any issues it completely shut down and did not want to start. They called me to tell me that the engine was locked. They tried turning the engine over multiple times, but nothing would start up. Due to not knowing what was going on with my vehicle I felt unsafe with driving it as it completely slowed down on the highway. As other cars where speeding by. It gave no indications prior to the incident that anything was wrong. I am waiting to see a Hyundai dealership to inspect my vehicle which they are booked until next month. My car is currently disabled.

Sonata

Occurrence: This has been a recurring issue for over a year (over a year, might be closer to two years now) for our PHEV Sonata. It has happened approximately 10 times. Problem: Total engine shutdown when driving the car. "Shut down engine" type error message pops up and cannot accelerate. Steering still works, but it can be hard to pull over due to lack of engine power. The car can be restarted after shutting down, but must first come to a complete stop and into Park. Safety Issue: The car stops working. Obviously, this would be quite dangerous on a busy road, a highway, or if you were taking a left turn, etc. Confirmation: The dealer indicates that the hybrid battery is a problem and should be replaced. However, due to supply chain issues, we have been waiting for over a year for the replacement. **** Reproduction Steps: **** We have found that it is most likely to happen with a fully charged battery and a sudden braking action. I suspect the issue happens when trying to charge the battery but due to its condition, it shuts down instead. It tends to happen: 1) Full Charge: Battery is fully charged overnight or "topped up" to full charge 2) Sudden Braking: Having to brake hard, such as being cut off. We have found that adjusting charging and driving habits has reduced but not eliminated the issue. Suggestion: I would suspect that having some electrical component to prevent a sudden overcharge might eliminate this problem (shunting excess current or turning off regenerative braking for sudden stops). Warning Messages: A warning message is seen, but it happens at the same time the engine is shut down and disappears before you could take a picture of it (as you are busy trying to do an emergency pull over).
