One day, we simply noticed that the shark fin covering the antennae was missing. Upon inspection, we noticed that all of the plastic fasteners were broken. With no apparent explanation, we contacted Hyundai and were informed that it would cost $215 for the part, which can only be purchased as a unit, and about $250 to install. This cover is a simply plastic fin which probably costs less than $10 and should not have come off in a 2 yrs. old vehicle.
The Hyundai Forum is full of similar stories. It is appalling that Hyundai is failing to take responsibility for a design defect and passing the replacement cost on to the consumer. Communication with the local dealership was unsatisfactory which prompted online research. One would expect the manufacturer to replace the defective design or at least fine a REASONABLE solution to the problem. We're very disappointed in Hyundai's handling of this pervasive problem.
