I had tethered my dog in the back seat of the Sonata as he was going to the spa for grooming. I opened the car door to go back inside to grab something. I was away from the car maybe 30 seconds total. As I exited the patio door I pulled the blinds closed, turned around and saw my vehicle was gone. I looked around and saw the vehicle traveling backward toward the main road with the car door open, my dog in the back and headed for a ditch and large cedar tree. As the car traveled backwards, the door was caught on the cedar tree pulled it from the hinges and the vehicle went into the ditch and thankfully stopped there. The car was 100 feet away from me when I detected the vehicle not where I left it. Luckily, my dog wasn't hurt, luckily it did not go across the road into a huge ditch and luckily no child was behind it. What an awful experience.
When my car is in reverse it will not allow you to exit the vehicle in reverse. I do not know what happened but am thankful my dog was not hurt. The interior door panel where it was caught on the tree has to be replaced, along with a new door and a new fender. I will not be keeping this car.
