I bought my Cpo Sonata in April of 2015 with about 43k on the odometer. About a year later we discovered a clicking noise when turning left. Took it to our local Hyundai dealership for a diagnostic test. We were given back the car saying they couldn't find anything wrong. We drove the car home and the noise was noticeably quieter but still there. We continued to drive the car. Early November 2019 the noise was back and louder than ever. So much so the the car had lost power steering. We had to pull over in 55 mph traffic to power off the car and restart it, just to make it home. Eps light is on and the wheel is locked until its restarted. It happens out of the blue. On 11/7/2019 on the way to the dealership the steering locked up and could no longer be driven. Had it towed to Hyundai of Valdosta and it's been there ever since. Bill quote was $2500 since now it's out of warranty. This is dangerous. Luckily my daughter wasn't in the car. Emailed corporate and was told it was nothing they could do. It's only a matter of time before more sonata owners experience this very bad situation.

Sonata Limited 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,032 miles

I bought this car brand new from the dealer, thought I was getting a great car. Enjoying a day at the pool with friends, a thunderstorm rolls in, I get in my car to leave, start it up and the steering is out! I cannot turn the wheels. Contacted Blue Link, they ran a diagnostic and said my power steering was out. This is odd, considering my car only has 1032 miles on it....most of the mileage has been from going back and forth to the dealership. The first issue was the tire pressure sensors came on stating my tire pressure was extremely low. I waited in the rain 2 hours 45 mins for a tow, arrived at the dealership around 8pm. Great way to spend a Saturday evening. It's Monday morning and I'm waiting to hear what the issue is. The service department said they should be able to get to my vehicle today....tomorrow. I will keep you posted, but I started doing research to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Update from Jul 26, 2016: I have been to the dealership three times over the past 10 days, and still, my car is not repaired. The explanation is that there is a major computer problem and they are working with the technicians at Hyundai to get it fixed. The computer failure is causing the problem with the power steering, and the ABS brakes. As of today, they still do not have a resolution other than "we are working on it."

Sonata 2.0T 2.0turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60 miles

60 miles on a brand new car and the power steering motor fails. Drove it for one day. Spent about a week in the shop. When I got the car back, everytime I drive it for more than a couple of miles, it smells like burning plastic. It didn't have that smell the one day that I actually got to drive it. Shop said it was normal and should go away by around 120 miles. Way over that, it still has the burning smell.
