1/14/18 upon entering a 4 lane major road from a store parking lot, my 2015 Sonata would not accelerate. I let off and pushed the accelerator pedal, no response though the RPM's were revving. The check engine light came on. I pulled over, shut the car off, and restarted the car. The car seemed to accelerate ok after some initial hesitation. However, the engine light is still on and the car is accelerating up to 11 mph, in drive and reverse, on its own when the brake is released (no use of accelerator pedal). In addition, when in drive, the car lurches forward reaching a speed of about 5 mph as soon as the break is released. I see recalls for these engine issues on 2011-2012 models. Appears issue not resolved with engine recalls showing for mode years 2013-2014, it seems the engine issues are still not resolved for 2015. My car has less than 45,000 miles and has been serviced at the Hyundai dealership I purchased the car new every 3000 miles until my oil change time before last. The next service sticker was for a 5000 mile interval and when I questioned this, I was told the dealership was using a higher performance oil that didn't require changing prior to 5000 miles. I had the next oil change done at about 4000 miles. I am concerned I will be told there is nothing wrong with my car, my engine is going to seize, and I will be stuck with this repair expense.

My wife believes our car had a "sudden unintended acceleration" that caused the car to lurch forward at a high speed and rear end the car parked in front of her. She kindly suggests that employee take the time to research this on the internet. Use google and type in Hyundai sudden unintended acceleration. You will see stories from numerous Hyundai car owners who say they have had this same problem happen. This problem is very dangerous and I fear for my wife's safety when she continues to drive our Hyundai. I know we have no proof of this happening unless Hyundai motor Corp. "owns up" to the problem. But my wife is absolutely certain that our car suddenly unintended accelerated forward causing the rear end collision. She was attempting to park her car on a street. My wife is a very safe and careful driver. She has been driving for 30 years without having an accident, until recently. She truly believes the accident was caused by the sua and she was not at fault.

1. cruise control is jerky and rough on acceleration and deceleration 2. main issue I have with this car is that the fuel gauge is incredibly inaccurate. If it reads at 1/8 tank, I can only put in 12-13 gallons. Each "tick" mark on the gauge value ranges from about 9 miles to 63 miles despite the fact that it regularly gets 32+ mpg combined city/highway. When I complained to the dealership (I bought it used) they replaced the vaccuum cylinder, which helped with filling the tank (it would previously just shut off mysteriously during fill-ups) but then the gas gauge measured even worse. The "range" as calculated by the car's computer is always very low and drops off precipitously even though I know (by the trip meter) that I haven't gone far enough to have used as much gas as it would appear. Despite the obvious flaws of the gauge, the codes still read that it is working "normally" and to have it covered by the warranty, I have to experience a complete failure of the fuel sending units, I.e. catastrophic break down. I would like to have them replaced before it gets to that point.

On multiple occasions (about 10) since April 2017, vehicle has decelerated to very low speeds, e.g., 10 mph while traveling at 35-40 mph on a city street, which is usually accompanied by engine dying. This was reported to O'brien Hyundai of fort myers, fl on 4/20/17. They were not able to duplicate the problem after test driving for 8 miles. Since April 2017, we have also experienced numerous failed electric switching functions, e.g., door opener switches while vehicle is stationary. While these have been reported to O'brien, the company has not been able to duplicate the problems. However, both my wife and I have experience the smaller problems on a daily basis, and the more serious problem described above on a weekly basis.

Takata recall......I was driving my car and I heard a loud noise, shortly thereafter, the car dashboard said that the car was running hot and it shut down in the middle of traffic. I rolled to a stop and put the car in park. I got out the car and look under the car to see if I saw anything because of the noise, and I didn't see anything. I popped the hood and noticed that the antifreeze level was not low and that the pressure was not tight on the radiator hose. So I could not understand why the car was running hot. I closed the hood and got back into the car and started the car back up because it appeared to have cool down. I drove the car to the nearest parking lot and called a tow truck to take the car to the dealership. Once the dealership look at the car, they noticed that the pulley was not on the alternator, the serpentine belt was at the bottom of the car and that was the reason the car was running hot. They said they have never seen anything like that before. New car with only 66,000 miles on it and the pulley on the alternator is completely off while driving is not safe. In rush hour traffic in the city, is not safe for me and my kids.

I bought my car in August 2014 and ever since 2015 around January/February I have had this problem, the car either braking or accelerating "surges" and I have complained to the dealers but they can't find the problem as well as it sometimes cuts off at a light or when accelerating it shudders like it's going to die but they can't (or won't because it's still under warranty) find the problem but it is a concern to me when driving and I'm not saying they aren't seeing it but I wonder if anyone else has this problem with the Sonata.

On July 12,2016 I was pulling into a parking spot at the bank. My foot was on the brake as I entered the space. My car then seemed to make a loud noise like the engine was revering ups it then shot forward like a rocket. It felt someone had smashed behind me! luckily there were pillars in front of the bank which prevented my car from crashing in the bank. I have found several complaints with the 2015 Hyundai Sonatas doing this however there is no recall. Cost of damage was $9,051. This was an extremely frightening experience!

I was parking my 2015 Hyundai Sonata turbo sport in a strip mall parking lot. I pulled into the space and, before getting in all the way, the car suddenly accelerated to a high speed, jumped the concrete curb and slammed into a concrete wall. The air bag did not deploy and my chest hit the steering wheel and my head whipped back so I now have headaches, neck and back pain.the front bumper was damaged with marks from the concrete and though it remained on the car, it was dislodged. There was also some damage around the front headlights and the rubber part of the undercarriage.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, all of the warning indicators illuminated as the steering wheel seized and the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. Updated 04/19/16 consumer stated it was a joint kit behind the dashboard that was the problem. Updated 6/6/18

Bought 2 brand new Sonata with top technology package on 4/15/2015. The problem happened on both new cars. Whenever the gas pedal is off, the computer/software take control of slowing the car down even with open road ahead, on flat surface, on corners, up or down hill. This happened whether it is in eco, nor or pwr driving mode. At various stages, the brake kicks in at various speed and the transmission downshift prematurely; in deceleration, the RPM will only goes down until idling speed, but I can see the RPM goes up a few hundred RPM at least twice before the Sonata come to a complete stop" Sonata does not have "hill decent control" like the range rover for specific safety reasons. In cruise control, it is even worst. If you set cruise at 60, later speed up to 80 to pass a slower car, once you let off the gas pedal, the car hit the brake and slow you back to 60? what is the hurry? coasting is drivers best friend because it means free mileage. Yet Sonata engineer thinks otherwise. This erratic behavior would certainly irritate the driver behind you enough and even cause road rage. If the Sonata decided to hit the brake by itself at a fast corner, what will happened? there is an article in detroit bureau mark B, said his 2012 equus spin out of control and no one understand why" I brought back the car twice to the dealer and both the mechanic and the sale manager defend their product. Attach article from detroit bureau. www.thedetroitbureau.com/2014/06/Hyundai-counts-on-Alabama-plant/comment-page-1/#comment-180948.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While traveling on a roadway or a highway, the vehicle's speed would reduce without warning. The vehicle became slow to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer more than five times, but they could not replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to a second authorized dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 500.

Since leasing the vehicle on August 1 I constantly complained about the gas mileage which Hyundai indicated would be resolved on the following oil change. The oil change barely effected the mileage efficiency which leads to the second issue when the gas gauge shows below a quarter on the tank the cruise control does not work and is also affected in high mountain areas. When I explained these issues to Hyundai they said they never heard of it and would sent to the company for further review in the meantime I have a car with the gas gauge that does not show exact amounts from fill up to empty makes this car a safety risk that is totally unacceptable not to mention the car is running horrible which suggest other safety features are not working accurately. The dealers look over only suggested other underlying issues exist with this vehicle and is a clear safety hazard.
