At around 4000 RPM, there is a metallic rattle coming from the engine. First the dealer said it was caused by oil, so they change the oil and were even dumb enough to overfill the oil over a quart, and it still made a noise. Later they said they were unable to duplicate the issue. This is one of the many issues I’ve had with this car. I will never buy another Hyundai.
Bought a 2015 Hyundai sonata sport 2.4 in may of 2018, noticed when I got the car it had a vibration around 45 mph I told the salesman who was with me sounds like the torque converter is going bad sounds exactly what my Honda civic did before I replaced the transmission. He said oh no it's running at low torque I still did not believe him on this but got the car anyways. So the day I bought it home I have a very steep driveway the freaking car was at 3 rpm and just randomly downshifts to 1 rpm and just boggles and basically guns it up the driveway I called
Hyundai right away they told me it already had two ECM computer updates, its funny this car was traded back in at only 28,000 miles I also find it funny that it takes two times to update something that has obviously not been fixed, till this day it had only got worse, vibrates so bad that it shakes my drink and cell phone, took to dealership said normal. Normal? are you crazy a vibration this bad can ruin the engine mounts and I'm not sure if it is the engine or the tranny, definitely not normal.
I also find this useful took to dealership just like the rest of you, cannot duplicate the problem lol you know why that is they never even drove it, I'm a smart girl took a picture of the mileage when I dropped it off and rest the trip miles it was driven 0.3 miles lol really I didn't call them out on this all they did was hook it up to a computer and found nothing well of course you didn't doesn't mean there isn't a problem a transmission can be going bad just like my Honda civic guess what no engine light. Engine light and computer check means nothing if you already have a faulty ECM as it is.
Bought this car in 2015 and really liked the mileage and performance. I have always done my own oil changes since its a commuter care running 80 miles a day to work. Last year the motor developed a severe knock and no acceleration. Called the Hyundai service number and they towed it to Hyundai with a diagnosis of a broken spark plug.
The mechanic said he had never seen this before and everything seemed fine after. Early this summer it started acting funny under acceleration and the engine light came on. I used a code reader and it came up with random misfire and misfire cylinder 3. Brought it to dealer for diagnosis (2 hours away) and they had to replace a spark plug that was not in stock so it took me 2 trips to get another "broken" spark plug fixed under warranty.
End of August same knocking, slow acceleration, and engine light came on. Deciding to look at it myself, guess what? 2 broken spark plugs in cylinder 1,2. Not the insulation end but the electrode was completely gone so I can imagine what this did to the motor. I brought it to my mechanic after swapping all the plugs and the motor seemed to run fine but low on oil.
Made the appointment with Hyundai and their mechanic says motor is toast, coded p0302, p1111, p0014 and metal found in the screen on exhaust cam oil control valve. They said since I do my own oil changes it probably wont be covered by Hyundai. Brought it back to my mechanic to look and leak down is horrible on all cylinders. Compression is good but burning oil very heavy.
I am going to have dealer do paperwork to replace motor and wait for them to deny it. Looks like same problem they had with the 2011-2014 models that Hyundai replaced.
I brought my car back many times for this problem. I was told just to drive it in sports mode. The mechanic said it just sounds like its bogging down at 35 or 45 mph at a steady speed. REALLY! I paid all this money for this car and they can't be bothered to fix it the right way. I just don't know what to do about this..
CAR HAS VIBRATION, DOES THIS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS WITH ENGINE RUNNING ABOUT 1200 RPMS. CARRIED TO DEALER TWICE, THEY SAID WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKING DOWN AT LOW SPEED. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THEY SAY PUT MORE MILES ON CAR TO BREAK IT IN. THAT'S THEIR ANSWER. NOT HAPPY WITH HYUNDAI. CAR GETTING WORSE NOT BETTER.
