Yesterday I took my car which had 30,852 miles on it to the dealer for the 30,000 mile maintenance. I was informed that there was a recall for an ECM & cluster software update that had to be performed. I was told nothing about the purpose of the update. The car was serviced, I left the dealer and drove approximately 2 miles to the grocery store. When leaving the grocery store I had to turn left across a lane of fast moving traffic approximately 200 yards away from a major intersection. As I proceeded my car stalled and I was almost hit. The engine did not die completely and I was able to limp back to the dealer. They gave me a loaner and said they would work on the problem. When I went home I did a substantial amount of internet research and determined that Hyundai knows these engines are defective and there is another class action suit pending on the 2015 and 2016 models after they had already settled a suit on the 2011-2014 models. This morning the dealer stated they have to replace my knock sensor because its bad. When I stated I knew about the engine problems the service tech admitted my knowledge to be correct but said he has to go through the process which for now is to replace the sensor and harness which will not solve the problem of a defective engine that can stall in traffic from previously known problems. The software update is what caused my vehicle to go into "limp home" mode. This is a known defect to which I was not informed and I was almost killed yesterday. Hyundai knows this is a problem on the 2015-2016 and is further exacerbating the issue by installing software on a service recall that is designed to ascertain their exposure to defective vehicles. I was lucky I wasn't killed yesterday and now I have to go through a process that further risks my life and there are hundreds of thousands of vehicles out there with the same problems.

P0010 code and P0011 can hear a metal grinding noise when accelerating also fluctuating rpms. I keep immaculate maintenance and take excellent care of it. Absolutely no idea how but parked car everything was normal, started car next day and rpms shot high and light came on. They reset light and say nothing wrong but this keeps occuring. Highly upset as I have absolutely loved everything about this car until now.

At around 80,000 miles car started going down hill. It hesitates to take off from a stopping point. It shakes sometimes when about to accelerate and it doesn't accelerate very fast anymore gets up to about 1800-2000 RPM before it actually picks up speed.

The low beam headlights will not come on even after replacing the bulbs and fuses. The A/C stopped working. Again, the fuses were replaced and all connections are right. There's a vibration coming from the passenger side front wheel. It starts at 70 M.P.H and gets worse as speed increases. Roaring the tires did not help. It sounds like a old worn out truck coming from the drivers side strut housing.

Air intake was replaced 3X. 3rd time lead to turbo failure. Thompson Hyundai replaces turbo but doesn't put antifreeze, tighten oil screw (which blew oil all over engine), and they didn't even test drive it. Drove vehicle, smoke starts pouring from the vents, engine overheats. Vehicle gets towed back to dealership. Currently vehicle has check engine light on, rough idle and doesn't accelerate. Almost got into an accident because loss of acceleration. Also, the sunroof winddeflector which was recalled is now coming off again. Dealership used a small amount of glue to adhesive it back to the car. The glue has failed.Hyundai needs better service techs. They have destroyed my car.

Sonata

  • 56,000 miles
I purchased my 2015 Sonata 12/04/2017. Almost immediately, my gear started to slip. At first had issues breaking, it seemed a bit delayed. I was advised by some family members that maybe the engine simply needed to be flushed. (early January) about 2 weeks later going up and down hills started becoming an issue. Due to my busy work schedule, I had to put off going to the shop. My car is necessary for my employment. The week before I was due to service (early February) my car stopped moving forward or backward after stopping at a local stop sign, I towed the car into the dealership and they have decided that the cause of these issues is a crack in my transmission. They have decided not to use my warranty to cover the damages because they believe that it was caused by a driver. They explained that the part that seems to be affected, is the only part of the undercarriage that isnt protected by the plastic cover piece. They said this damage could have happened unknowingly and easily. This has made my car extremely vulnerable to outside damage and has also brought the value of the car down extremely.

36,000 miles and the engine died without warning after proceeding through a stop light. Well maintained too. Was told they need to replace the whole engine with a refurbed engine. Don't like the idea of a refurbed engine that I don't know the history.

Sonata

  • 45,000 miles
1/14/18 upon entering a 4 lane major road from a store parking lot, my 2015 Sonata would not accelerate. I let off and pushed the accelerator pedal, no response though the RPM's were revving. The check engine light came on. I pulled over, shut the car off, and restarted the car. The car seemed to accelerate ok after some initial hesitation. However, the engine light is still on and the car is accelerating up to 11 mph, in drive and reverse, on its own when the brake is released (no use of accelerator pedal). In addition, when in drive, the car lurches forward reaching a speed of about 5 mph as soon as the break is released. I see recalls for these engine issues on 2011-2012 models. Appears issue not resolved with engine recalls showing for mode years 2013-2014, it seems the engine issues are still not resolved for 2015. My car has less than 45,000 miles and has been serviced at the Hyundai dealership I purchased the car new every 3000 miles until my oil change time before last. The next service sticker was for a 5000 mile interval and when I questioned this, I was told the dealership was using a higher performance oil that didn't require changing prior to 5000 miles. I had the next oil change done at about 4000 miles. I am concerned I will be told there is nothing wrong with my car, my engine is going to seize, and I will be stuck with this repair expense.

  • 20,000 miles
Bought this car brand new and at 20,000 miles it all started to go down hill. My car shakes & stalls hesitates bad loss of power almost causing accidents on a daily basis. I have brought it to the dealer 5 times for the same complaint even left it there for 9 days still not fixed I have a $398 payment for a car I am afraid to drive. I will not put my children in the car I am that afraid of getting in an accident. Hyundai does nothing no one can fix it & everyone has the same complaint I do all over the internet. These cars need to be taken off the road before someone gets killed!!! I pay for a car that I keep parked thats insane!!! my car is unsafe and a road hazard and no one is doing anything for any of these people that have the same problem as me. I have even brought video footage to Hyundai and they just update my computers which makes is worse half the time.

On multiple occasions (about 10) since April 2017, vehicle has decelerated to very low speeds, e.g., 10 mph while traveling at 35-40 mph on a city street, which is usually accompanied by engine dying. This was reported to O'brien Hyundai of fort myers, fl on 4/20/17. They were not able to duplicate the problem after test driving for 8 miles. Since April 2017, we have also experienced numerous failed electric switching functions, e.g., door opener switches while vehicle is stationary. While these have been reported to O'brien, the company has not been able to duplicate the problems. However, both my wife and I have experience the smaller problems on a daily basis, and the more serious problem described above on a weekly basis.

Sonata

  • 25,000 miles
Problems started with rattling noise from engine, and engine loosing power/surging. This was 2 years ago with 20,000 miles on car, and took to dealer who applied ECM update. Which if anything made it worse, and car started surging forward in situations like applying brakes when approaching red light. This has caused me to nearly rear end several cars, and pushed me out in traffic when engine surges unexpectedly. I have made several trips to the dealership, like many others always get the same answer 'we were unable to reproduce issue', and even went to another dealership to receive same answer. Car still has same problem, it happens frequently, and also happens when I have had friends with me or drive the car. So I'm not crazy, not doing anything wrong, and believe hyaundai is trying to wait for power train warranty to expire. Since I travel for work and now have 94,000 miles on the 2015 Sonata sport.
