The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance by an independent mechanic, the contact was advised that the front passenger side coil spring fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 105,209.
While driving, the front coil spring fractured, which resulted in the broken coil puncturing the tire. This occurred on a winding country road around a hairpin turn at 6pm in the evening. Howard county police were called until a tow truck arrived due to the danger presented by the road. Automotive technicians confirmed this was the cause of the damaged tire. There was a previous recall on 2011 Hyundai Sonatas and elantras for this exact problem (recall 15V629000).
