Purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata for my 16 year old daughter for her birthday. This car was a one-owner, always serviced at the Hyundai dealer, and had only 76,000 miles. The car's oil was always changed ever 3-4 thousand miles along with all recommended service per Hyundai. She had this car only a couple months, then while driving home from school all the dash lights lit up like a Christmas tree and the car shut down. Real bad burning smell, and it would not even turn over.
I had the car towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer. A week later got the call nobody wants to hear, yes... the engine blew. I provided all the car fax information to the dealer showing proper maintenance being performed on the car. Service manager said the oil was clean and fresh. He submitted the paperwork to Hyundai. 10 days later I got the call the engine would be replaced at no cost to me. Our Hyundai dealer told me it would take 4-6 weeks. The dealership provided a rental vehicle while the repairs were being completed.
Exactly 5 weeks later we got the call our Sonata was ready for pick up. After 7 weeks from start to finish we had the Sonata back. I must give Hyundai credit for providing proper customer service. We were told that the new engine would be once again covered to 120,000 miles. However said, they have replaced quite a few Sonata engines and have yet to have one return. I assume they have corrected the issues that caused the recall. For anyone that is faced with this issue with their Sonata, I hop you get the same outcome. I was told by the service Manager, keep service records giving the company nothing to question. Good luck.
