Hyundai Sonata 2013

Awful car, While my son (19 years old) was driving his Hyundai Sonata 2013 on a major highway in New Jersey GSP, car goes up in flames under hood. ABSOLUTELY No warning. He had the defective car for barely 2 years. Maintained it very well, oil changes etc...

While driving at 75 miles an hour, thick black plumes of smoke enveloped the car, it's a miracle he did not hit someones or worse. Some how managed to pull over onto shoulder, lifted hood, flames shot out. Good Samaritans pulled over to help put out fire engulfed car.

This could have turned out much differently. Hundreds of non crash fires have been reported. I can't figure out how on earth Hyundai 2013 (and other years) are still allowed on the Highways. There will be many more complaints. Hopefully the drivers will get out with their lives as my son did.

I will be hiring an attorney in this matter.

I purchased my 2013 Sonata in Feb. of 2017. I had an issue in the right wheel well that I had taken to get looked at from the dealership multiple times. The issue seemed to be resolved and I had no issues until Sept. 20th, 2018. I had given a friend a ride home and was taking the back roads, when my car just shut down as I was driving it. Everything locked up, so I couldn't even get the vehicle to move off the road. At the same time, my hazards weren't turning on, or if they did, they'd shut off immediately. Being on a dark back road, in the middle of the actual lane, I decided a call to 911 was in order. As I was making the call, I then noticed an odd smell. I mentioned this, as smoke then began pouring in through my vents. They asked my location and I noticed a flicker outside my window in what seemed like the wheel well. I told them to let me get out and walk a safe distance, and my car was in fact on fire. Within minutes, the entire vehicle was engulfed and burned so hot that my vehicle was melted to the road. I was lucky I was already on the phone, had a quick reaction, and that I was on my own.
