Vehicle gave a warning that the hybrid system failed and to safely leave the road and stop driving. There was no shoulder and before I could leave the roadway, the vehicle lost all power. Not even enough power for hazard lights.
I had taken the vehicle to the dealership for a clock spring recall. I picked the vehicle up and the check engine light was on. I took the vehicle back to the dealership and they informed by the check engine light was caused by the high pressure fuel pump failure. This seems to be a know problem with this make/model/yr vehicle.
I took it to the shop and they said it may be wheel alignment or ball point when steering. I took it for a 2nd opinion, and the same thing was stated. I called my insurance geico, and they told me ther was a recall.
Was driving on major street with no warning the vehicle died in the middle of a major intersection. We tried to start the vehicle again with no luck. Gas hand showed we had gas in the vehicle, so don't understand why the car stalled and would not start again. Vehicle had to be towed home. Not sure if there has been a recall on the fuel system, however this was a very scary and dangerous situation. Stalled vehicle had traffic back up on very busy overpass intersection. Unknown to what happen nor why it happen
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was being driven, it experienced reduced engine power without warning and a knocking noise was heard. The vehicle was pulled over and the engine seized, rendering the vehicle unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 18V934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline) and 15V568000 (engine); although, it exhibited the same failures listed in the recall campaigns. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,139.

The fuel gauge has stopped working correctly, it jumps all around in mileage. Have no idea how much is in the gas tank. Have to fill after I go 300 or so miles just to be safe. The fuel mileage indicator will go from high 360 to 47 miles left and everywhere in between, the car can be sitting at a stop light or moving, makes no difference
The gas gauge is not displaying correctly. The vehicle shows empty even after I have filled it up with gas. It also fluctuates randomly. This happens in all settings when the vehicle is stationary or moving.
My fuel gauge is no longer reading the fuel level. I fill my tank to full and it tell me that I am empty. Fuel indicator comes on and fuel gauge goes up and down. I have to manually calculate and estimate how much fuel I have left. This is a common issue on Sonata's as there are many others reporting and is not a recall yet.
After my engine short block was replaced the car started to have acceleration problems and next is starting to smell like rotten eggs. The smell starts when you start up the car comes through the air vents and after you park the car to stay at smell stays in the car for least 5 hours later. Also the gas gauge and the mileage are not coincide with each other one says one thing and the other says another my gas light comes on at 56 miles left to empty sometimes it comes on that 40 sometimes it comes on at
At any speed the engine will return to idle without moving the gas pedal. It will do the same thing when using cruise. Pushing the gas pedal will re-engage the engine. It acts as if you take your foot off the gas. There are no warning lights and everything acts normal (lights, power steering etc). This started in mid March 2019. It is becoming a daily issue.. my wife is scared to drive it. I took it to my Hyundai dealer and they could find nothing wrong. It did not do it for them. They said it showed no codes. I keep very good care of my Sonata. It has 180,000. My dealer is noller Hyundai topeka ks.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the rear tail lights had an internal electrical short and contained rust and corrosion. Also, the sockets melted on both sides of the rear tail lights. The rear passenger side light had to be removed to prevent the middle rear brake light from remaining illuminated. The rear driver's side tail light was operable, but eventually shorted out as well. The contact ordered replacement tail lights three times, but the failure recurred each time. In addition, the contact heard a loud noise concerning the fuel system. When turning the steering wheel in either direction, the contact heard an abnormal noise intermittently. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 18V137000 (seat belts and air bags) and 18V934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline); however, the contact did not receive any notifications. Mcgrath city Hyundai (6750 w grand ave, Chicago, il 60707, (773) 889-9090) was contacted, but had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The car will turn off while driving. We tested the battery and the alternator and everything else that will be the issue but everything is working fine and maintenance is up to date. We dont feel safe driving the car
While driving or stationary the gas hand goes down from 367 to 0, ----- when I know there is gas in the car, sometimes the gas hand will come back up to where it belongs and when it does not come back and you keep on driving the engine light comes on. Once you fill the car back up about $4 worth that is all it will take drive the car for about an hour the engine light goes out, but the gas hand still will go to empty after you reach about 300 gas to empty.
2012 2.0T limited with 95K. 12-18-18, while driving from austin to houston tx vehicle loses acceleration on the highway. Check engine light comes on, along with the emergency parking brake light (which comes on intermittently and dealership yet to define problem), and abruptly goes from 75 to 0 mph. Vehicle will not respond to any acceleration and I have to find a way from the freeway to feeder without power. Inoperable. Limped three miles with police escort. Car towed. Dealership cannot duplicate issue. I make them keep vehicle to investigate. They get a code error and change out the ECM for a mere $1400. Meanwhile, I must find transportation in a city I do not live and rent a car for a week. Retrieved vehicle. 2 weeks later, traveling to houston on 12-26, check engine light comes on, car will not accelerate; spitting, feels like no gas getting to engine, heavy smoke from tailpipe. Christmas eve, no place to stop. Barely make it to houston. Inoperable. Car goes to another dealership in houston. Again, without transportation in a city I do not live in. Faulty high pressure fuel pump. Carbon buildup. Another $1100. Prior to that, March 2017, engine failure travelling to houston. Knocking noise. Wont go. Inoperable (luckily, this one I made it to a full stop). Car towed. Waited three months for a new engine (not in my hometown). Had to travel to pick up vehicle. (car had been inspected by hometown dealership specifically for metal debris and it did not get flagged for replacement). Directly after that, while driving in austin. Vehicle stops in major intersection. Inoperable. Towed. Degraded battery cable because the vehicle sat for three months while waiting for an engine. The only warranty was the engine. Can you say lemon? the only saving grace is that myself and my family were not seriously injured when our vehicle became inoperable while driving on a highway.
The fuel gage does not register then it acts erratically - going from full to empyt to 1/2 tank then remains on empty - all this within 20 min. Of filling up the tank. I have read forums it is not limited to my car. There are many Hyundai owners that have the same problem. There should be a recall for this - its not limited to Sonata - Santa Fe models reported it too.
"fire hazard" received an engine replacement under Hyundai engine recall, I picked-up the car on 09-13-18. I've had several problems occur in the last few months. One of the main issues is a fuel/gasoline smell inside the cabin and around the engine compartment. Now there is extremely strong smell of gasoline whenever I just turn on the ignition without starting the car. I also notice that there was a puddle of gasoline on the ground under the engine area. I read that some cars are catching on fire after Hyundai replaced the engines under the engine recall. My concern is for safety of my family. There is potential that my car may/will catch on fire. The car has not been driven in over three weeks. I've filed a complaint on 12-03-2018 with Hyundai motors(case # 13222827) but have not received any updates as of yet.
My car was in motion when headlights started dimming then car lost power and was begigging to stop..kept depressing gas pedal and car then started moving again. I was traveling on a main road in left lane when this happened which could have been a major accident. Also have numerous brake light bulbs replaced and key fob will not be recognized to start car but car will start when keyfob inserted into charger in miiddle console. Key fob will work to open and lock door but not for starting car.
1.) I have been having issues with the fuel light flashing as if I am out of gas, when I just put gas in the vehicle. I had the fuel pump changed and that does not fix the problem. So now I am in the process of trying to find out what the problem is. 2.) I have received a letter that there is a recall on the air bags, my air bag light is now on and stays on. When I checked online it shows that there is not any remedies available. I drive this vehicle everyday with my 3 children in the car. Heaven forbid I get in a serious accident and the airs bags do not deploy, who knows what may happen. This issue really needs to be corrected. 3.) I noticed on the recall list that my vehicle also has a recall on the seat belts as well; another safety issue if I were go get in a car accident.
