I was driving home when I heard the engine knock which I couldn't understand why I would have an engine knock. Then I looked out my mirrors to see an orange glow coming from under my car. Pulled over car engulfed in flames resulting in a total loss. Was very scary because I had two passengers in my car one of which being a 12 year old child.
On 2/27/18 I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata on the Interstate in South Carolina and my car suddenly caught fire and was smoking heavily from under the hood. I was able to pull over in time and escape the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. I am the original owner of this 2012 Hyundai Sonata and the vehicle was maintained and serviced regularly.
After searching online I see many other Hyundai's have had this same issue as well. It's disturbing that I was not notified of this and my car was serviced at the dealership 1 month prior to this incident and nothing was done about this defect.
I contacted Hyundai directly and they are not interested in the situation or a remedy.
