While driving car on rt 50 West bound towards the bay bridge, an engine popping noise occurred, then fumes starting coming from vents. Pull car over while getting out flames were already coming from the engine. Within minutes the whole car was engulfed in flames. No time to retrieve any items inside the car. The md transportation authority police were on the seen and called fire dept. Fire department said it was an electrical based on sparks as they were putting out the fire. Hyundai investigated the car remains and could not determine any cause.car pictures are to large of a file to submit
While driving in motion or after driving briefly after a complete stop. The emergency brake light may come on, or the actual brake lights would start to flicker for no reason. The rpms on the car would drop very low and then rise over 3000. The vehicle would then decelerate and not allow to go higher than 25 mph. The engine also makes a knocking noise. This has caused two near accidents, one being T-boned by another vehicle and another almost being hit in the rear of the vehicle by another vehicle. This has been stated to the local dealership at least twice and they state they cannot find anything wrong that would cause these issues. The vehicle has been taken to taylor Hyundai of augusta each time to be inspected.

The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
'engine seizure'I was drving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata (105,000 miles) on my way home from work, and suddenly after a quick passing effort by me rendered the car dead, all the dash lights came on and while I was mid way passing the car I had to break a little and pull up on the side (still on the main road). Turned off the car completely and tried turning on, but nothing happened. Got it towed to an auto shop and the mechanic said all the engine oil had drained out and the engine was locked out. Now an oil change was done about 4K miles/3months prior to the incident, an oil change was imminently near but this should not have happened after 4K miles of an oil change. After reading up, seems like this is a common issue with this Sonata, and my car had gone through an engine recall at a dealership 9 months ago, and nothing got picked up there. Hyundai needs to fix this issue asap. Scariest thing is this could have happened on a highway/vacation/with my family members in the car, it is not a small issue as it might sound
Takata recall. My son was driving down a major state route at 9:30pm when the car suddenly lost power, shortly there after, it stalled out, all the dashboard lights went on and within 2-3 mins, smoke poured from the front of the car and within 2 mins the front of the car was one huge blaze of fire. He was lucky to get out in time. It was very traumatic for him to say the least, not to mention as his parents, we were on face time with him after he pulled over and saw this as it was happening and couldn't be there to assist him.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 35 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine was blown at less then 60,000 miles. Hyundai of bedford (18300 rockside rd, bedford, oh 44146, (440) 439-0700) stated that they would cover only part of the engine failure repair cost. The manufacturer stated that there was a 100,000 mile warranty on the vehicle that should cover the engine repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 58,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle made abnormal noises and there was a strong vibration coming from the engine while driving at any rate of speed. Rick case Hyundai (3550 weston rd, davie, fl 33331, (954) 994-2397) was notified and replenished the oil; however, within two weeks, the oil was low without the presence of an oil leak. The contact was uncertain if he received a recall notification from the manufacturer. The failure was reported to the manufacturer to determine if the vehicle was included or excluded from an engine recall. The failure mileage was not available.
While my car is in motion it does not accelerate properly. A check engine light come on shortly after. The car will rev up to 5000-6000 RPM with very little to no acceleration. Apparently a common issue with the Sonatas with turbos. I was told it's the waste gate actuator for the turbo. When I first experienced this issue I was driving through the mountains and couldn't get up the mountain fast enough so I had to pull over to the shoulder with my hazards. The remainder of the climb over the mountains I was going 20-30 mph (while I'm at 5000 RPM or over).

The vehicle was pulled over and the contact noticed flames underneath the vehicle. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The contact called terry labonte Chevrolet at 336-447-1535 (located at 1401 bridford pkwy, greensboro, nc 27407) and was transferred to the warranty department for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,062.
I was parked. I started the car and put it in reverse to move it closer to a building, from one side of a dirt driveway to the other. When I started backing up everything seemed fine but after a few, maybe 3 seconds, the engine started roaring and the car took off at tremendous speed. I don't know how fast the car went.I hit the building, that's what stopped the car. I don't know if it would have stopped otherwise.

In addition, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine. There was also an electrical short with the interior and exterior lighting and the key fob failed to connect outside of the vehicle. The contact had to start the vehicle with the fob being in the charger. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failures could not be determined. My vehicle experience engine failure while I was driving I was stuck in the middle of the street in unsafe conditions. The engine in the vehicle was stuttering while driving. My vehicle was taken to a repair shop where I was made aware that my vehicle's engine was not working properly.
While driving on a highway, engine made loud noise (not continuous) but several times. Was less than a mile when the power cut out and I drifted to the merge area and off to the side. No indication that anything was wrong- no check engine light, just stopped. Had auto towed to our mechanic and he did a thorough check - indicated there were slivers of what appeared to be metallic pieces in oil (oil was just changed less that 1000 miles). Mechanic declared engine was dead-
While driving down the road my car is knocking out of gear, not getting acceleration. Pretty certain its the gear shifter. Also a burning smell comes from my motor.

I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata to visit family for thanksgiving. Halfway through the trip I heard a rubbing, grinding noise. I stopped and looked under the hood and could not find the source, but figured it was a belt issue since the check engine light was not on. I called the nearby Hyundai dealership to see if they knew what it could be. They did not but checked my VIN for recalls. I was told there were no recalls so I headed towards the dealership for a diagnosis. Soon after getting back on the road a loud bang occurred and the exhaust started smoking. I pulled over to call for a tow and again opened the hood. I noticed a fire had started under the engine so I got my wife out of the car and the car became fully engulfed. Called 911 and a fire unit responded to put out the fire. Car was then towed.
Son driving car and would not accelerate. Son was able to get to vacant lot. Son tried to crank car 2 times and it would not start. Electrical system flashed on and off about 5 minutes after cutting on and off. Son got out of the car and saw smoke coming from under the hood. Son ran to bushes and 5 minutes or less car engine burst into flames.
