We just noticed a clunking/clicking sound when driving the vehicle over a bump. We took the car to the dealership to check it out and was advised that the steering column needed a replacement and that it's a known issue with the Sonata especially the 2011.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel began to shake severely. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that the steering wheel started to become very loose in December of 2017 and progressively worsened. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
