I recently experienced some noise with my steering wheel while driving. At first I didn't pay much attention, but the problem began to become louder and worse. When driving any speed over 40 the steering wheel starts to shake and make this God awful noise (like when you're going down a very bumpy road..ONLY YOUR NOT, you're on the flat paved highway) The noise is so bad and the wheel shakes very bad!!

I took my car to the Red Hoagland Hyundai place in Winter Haven, Fl. and the mechanic there knew exactly what was wrong as soon as I pulled up and I didn't even have to do anything as far as paperwork or waiting, but tell him the problem. He said I know exactly whats wrong..you need a new steering coupler. Your make and model was made with a plastic coupler and it needs to be replaced with a metal one. They started making the newer models with metal ones because of this problem. He said it was $349 not including tax or labor and of course me having to make time to come up and have this done! He acted like it was no big deal it happens all the time.

I am upset ..1) I don't have money to replace something that the newer model Sonatas are now being made with 2) He said you shouldn't drive your car with this problem its dangerous. Well I am a single parent and don't have extra cash laying around to get the problem fixed and this is my only car..What do you do?

Needless to say 2 months after the problem has started I am still driving around with this noise and dangerous problem on my hands. I am VERY upset and will never buy, nor recommend Hyundai to anyone I know.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is my wife's car and she mentioned it was making a clicking sound. I drove it one day and it was very noticeable. Every time I even slightly moved the steering wheel, either clockwise or counterclockwise while moving. After a month it got even worse and constantly shakes and rattles.

I looked up the recalls for the model, and though I was experiencing the same problem, the VIN range didn't include our 2011 Sonata. I contacted Hyundai recently and am awaiting a response. I really don't feel I should have to pay over $300 for a fix that should be covered under either recall or general warranty. Doing a bit more research, it may just be a linkage coupler in the intermediate steering column, which is a whopping $0.97 piece. My wife is currently driving my Infiniti until we get this resolved through Hyundai, or I end up dismantling the steering column and fixing it myself.

The first day that I drove the car off the lot I noticed there was a wobble or a shake in the steering. No matter what speed we drive the shake is present. I pointed this out to the dealer and he said I was incorrect and there was nothing wrong. I waited a few weeks and still the problem was there. I can even see the seat next to me vibrate when there is nobody sitting in it. I have had passengers mention the wobble to me, so I know I am not imagining this.

Every place I brought it to said that there was nothing wrong and suggested an alignment or new tires. How could either of these be a solution when it was happening since the day we bought the car??? We are the first owners and there was only 17 miles on the car when we drove it off the lot to take it home. We have since gotten new tires and several alignments and the shake/wobble is still there. I know I am not imagining things and I know my way around a car. I just wish they would take the car back and it wouldn't mess with my credit. Since the day we bought the car we were mislead and I have tried to give the car back with no success!
