I mentioned this to the dealer but wasn't sure where the clicking sound was coming from. Noise got progressively worse starting from 10/20/2010 and today 10/23/2015 I paid $232 to replace the coupler. I should not have to replace with only 20,406 miles. Of course they can find the problem after it is no longer under warranty. Hyundai sucks.
As I was leaving work on Friday night, I noticed that while I was turning to exit the garage the steering made a clicking noise and there was play in the steering. I have extra special cargo (grandchildren) that I have to transport in my car and refuse to drive it due to the safety of myself and passengers (grandchildren). I don't know if I could loose steering or anything while driving and get into an accident, so I had no choice but to get it repaired. I was told that the problem was with the power steering column coupler that needed to be replaced. Come to find out the piece is made out of rubber and nothing more sturdier. I hope that a recall for this comes up and I can get reimbursed for this crap that shouldn't have ever happened. I see from reading other complaints I am not the only one experiencing this problem.
My warranty expired at 60,000 miles and right now it's at 60,215 and the steering wheel is now making clicking nose. It happens when turning right or left, over bumps or even at a stand still turning the wheel. I called Hyundai and they told me " oh yeah when get those complaints a lot, but it's not a recall on it"? WTF. So I have to pay over 300 dollars for a known issue really? This is just silly I think
Steering wheel makes loud clicking noise when turning slightly, or when going over bumpy road. Steering wheel also feels a bit loose (had too much play). Service department at Sterling McCall (Houston, Texas) Hyundai dealership said that part # 56315-2K000-FFF needs to be replaced, however there is a long back order on this part. I looked it up on the Internet and part costs about $0.95. Dealer also said it was ok for me to drive the car until the part arrives, and that it's not a dangerous problem. Car is very low mileage (about 19,500 miles) so very surprised that it's having this sort of issue.
When I turn right or left the wheel makes a very loud clicking noise, if I ride over a bumpy road it sounds like a piece of metal is clunking around. At higher speeds usually 70 or upon braking at high speeds the steering will begin to violently shake. Went to dealer and told me its a failed coupling. And they have seen a bunch coming in. Also because I'm at 66k miles I'm over the warranty by 6k. Which would cost me $240 to fix. This also just started at 64k miles, which is when I got my car back from the dealer after having my engine replaced do to failure. Which just noticed an article issuing a recall yesterday.

Car is making noise. When ever you are driving on the road, it clicks and rattles. Very annoying. I feel very unsafe. Had it checked out and was told there is something with the steering and would cost me about $600 to fix.
Steering is loose and clunks when you start turning either left or right. I call Hyundai and there is a recall, but my car does not come up. This problem is the exact same thing as what they are recalling. I am taking it in for the other recall tomorrow and having them look at this. I filed a complaint with NHTSA, so I will be following up with them.
While driving on route to TN from NC my husband and I noticed a clicking noise behind the steering wheel. The noise would occur when I would go over a bump, when I make a right or left turn, or when you are siting stationary and move the wheel left or right. I looked up the issue mainly to try to prove to my husband the issue was not caused by my bad driving as he says. Most of the complaints I read all stated that it was not covered under the warranty. My husband is at the dealership now. As soon as they took my car to the back they immediately said it had 4 recalls on it. Then surprisingly they changed their tune and now whatever problem I am having is not covered and it would be $300 to fix it. Well it seems a lot of us Hyundai owners are having the same issue. Why is there not another recall to fix it? A message to Hyundai and to my husband this issue was not caused by bad driving but in fact cased due to mechanical error.

Called dealer we pursued from in Ardmore, Oklahoma CARTER COUNTY HYUNDAI and they advised we would have to leave it with them for several days "1 hour and 15 minuets away" and it wasn't covered. Call dealer in Lawton and they asked us to bring it in, my be recalled soon.

Steering Wheel makes a clicking noise while driving over any kind of bump, dips, or even the little round things to separate lanes on the road. The wheel vibrates while it goes over bumps and I took it to the dealership and they told me it was not on recall and that I had to pay for it. They quoted me a price of $400 dollars. Still have not fixed it, still fighting with the dealership. But $400 is nothing when you compare it to your life. I am worried that the steering wheel will malfunction while driving and cause me to have a crash. I will look into fixing it soon.

There is a recall on my 2011 Sonata for this exact issue for those built between December 11, 2009 and September 10, 2010. Mine was manufactured on October 22, 2010.... Which is 6 weeks later... Doesn't it seem odd that I am having this relatively uncommon issue on a car that is < 5 years old and < 65k miles? I don't know the process to determine the cut off date, but it seems like too much of a coincidence. Funny, too, how I am just over my 60k warranty. I had my steering column repaired as a result of a recall and this new issue is very similar to that one. I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone have any experience being Hyundai to foot the bill for an issue that is outside the recall timeframe?
clicking noise when turned left or right & pulls to right
I bought a used 2011 Hyundai Sonata in January, 2012, battery went dead about 6 months after I purchased the car. Car has always pulled to the right while driving, I've replaced tires and have had it aligned several times. Have had several recalls on the vehicle. Clicking in the steering wheel while turning left or right started about a month or so ago. I have also noticed that on several different occasions that when I press the gas pedal, the car feels like it stalls (like it hesitates or something) Took it to the dealership and they say it is the steering coupler and it would be roughly $400.00 to repair (I was past the 60,000 mile warranty period). I don't have the funds right now, so I am unable to have it repaired. Hyundai should really have a recall on this as I see that this is a recurring problem. Really not liking Hyundai right now.
I took the car in complaining of the clicking sounds when driving over bumps or rough roads. The tech said something about replacing worn bushings or bumpers in the steering column. I've read where other owners have replaced their entire steering column. It's not just annoying but it makes the steering wheel feel loose as there is a very slight delay before the steering engages when turning either direction, which could be unsafe.
