CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Sonata has a seriously defective engine that seizes without warning. It was awarded the dubious honor of being the first CarTalk / CarComplaints Turd of the Week in late September 2015.

A class action lawsuit was filed in May 2015 against Hyundai that claims the 2.4L Sonata engine is defective. More info here.

The vehicle was driving down a rural highway (340 stuarts draft, va) at no more than 35mph, no bumps or jarring when the air bag light came on. Received a recall notice for the air bag sensor on my car which said "if your light remains illuminated, please see your local dealership". so I took the car in today and they said there is no fix for the issue recalled. I asked them to tell me what it would cost for me to repair it and they said they have no part, good or bad to put in it. Hyundai took all of the sensors back for defects, didn't give replacements and will only "back order" a new part until one is made. My air bag light remains illuminated and will fail inspection soon. Then I'll have a car payment, full coverage insurance and a car that I can not legally drive. When I asked what I should do next, the answer was hope there was a fix before my next inspection.

Hyundai recall / Sonata 2011 June 2018 : no remedy has still be announced, am still on "stand by" for a " possible remedy". was recommended to continue my safety recalled car by Hyundai Consumer Affairs, by brandon R. in huntington beach. And also andrew in corporate. After patiently waiting and requesting a loaner vehicle and manufactures refund, ive been directed to corporate to wait for this. We cannot just walk into a dealership and request a loaner vehicle. After waiting 2 months still no remedy, I am legally obligated to a refund or replacement which has still not implemented. After emailing the director of Hyundai manufactures, jim trainor says he will try and help me due to the severity of my situation and relaying multiple reports of my model catching fire (non-collision) after denying my request for a refund and/or replacement in result of a loaner vehicle since no remedy has been found long after the notice described one by April 2018. This can simply be resolved if matters were taken seriously as we are told.. the manufactuers get away with too much. Instead of being greedy.. my vehicle will be in stationary and have a airbag warning light on. Electrical safety and airbag saftey make this vehicle unfit to drive. I am demanding a refund and replacement.

Takata recall for suspension feel like we are bouncing up in down or the vehicle is going to fall apart. I notice the light on for the passenger airbag and the seat belt keep getting stuck or sometime want lock. This is concern for me because we take road trips and have to drive a long distance to get to work myself and husband would like to feel safe. I really feel that the frontal air bags seat belt pretensioners and side air bags are disabled and the suspension is a risk for many people lives. I subject you get these vehicle in the shop asap before something terrible happen. Please make sure that each shop have an experience mechanic last mechanic we had for a recall we had to come back several time and the vehicle still run like crap. Maybe you should refund people the remainder of there loan. I still have a balance of 6,000 which comes to all the trip and time consuming. I also called every dealer in Minnesota trying to make appointment could someone contact me asap to let me know that the parts are in. Myself and husband is taking a road trip and would like for the problem to be taken care before the end of June. I am appalled at the conditions I've had to endure with my Sonata. I've never seen or owned a more unsafe vehicle. My steering column broke, the engine was replaced twice, I've dealt with electrical problems, now it's involved in the airbag failure recall and I've needed to take my car in due to the 13 recalls. My Sonata is one of the first made. It's from the Alabama plant. I would like to hear why the NHTSA has not made Hyundai buy these vehicles back? I don't have the option of just going out and buying a new vehicle. I've raised my granddaughters and am now afraid to take them anywhere in my car. I'm begging that you make Hyundai get these cars off the road. It sickens me to know I've owned several Hyundai's. given them my trust and dedication to only feel they've turned their backs on me and the safety of my family. I'd really like to be contacted. I have records of all my work done. The only thing I could not get was receipts for warranty items they determined I didn't need receipts for. Even after I complained and demanded them. My vehicle was purchased and serviced at superior Hyundai North in fairfield oh. I have so many records, even recordings, that I can't possibly upload them all on here.

There is a recall saying my airbags and seat belt may not work in a crash but there is no remedy. This has been a recall since Feb 27th. I don't know what is considered a "timely" manner for Hyundai to respond but I am uncomfortable driving my car without getting this fixed yet I can't because Hyundai doesn't know what to do.
