Driving home from work one night and the engine cut out. The interior lights begin flashing, the a/c goes on and off, the radio goes on and off and the horn sounds. The car wouldn't start. I observed what I originally thought was steam coming from under the hood. After exiting the vehicle I realized it wasn't overheating but was on fire. the entire engine compartment was engulfed in flames.
I paid close to $20,000 for the vehicle and Hyundai only agreed to give me a little over $8000 and now I'm out a car. A non crash vehicle fire investigation was opened in August of this year, but I have read fires in Hyundai and Kia years 2011-2014 have occurred as early as April of this year.
There have been many recalls on these vehicles and none have picked up on the problem. What is it going to take before the consumers are satisfied. If this occurred on a Friday I would have had my grandchildren in the vehicle in car seats. I would be lucky if I could get them both out in time.
