CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Sonata has a seriously defective engine that seizes without warning. It was awarded the dubious honor of being the first CarTalk / CarComplaints Turd of the Week in late September 2015.
A class action lawsuit was filed in May 2015 against Hyundai that claims the 2.4L Sonata engine is defective. More info here.
Hello recently purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0 Turbo....... I am a bit of a car nut, trusted a friend when purchased car he was talking and had stereo on,so I never heard the grinding sound. It sounded to me like a hub bearing, so upon doing the brakes front and rear, rotors and pads I changed the front bearings......
Noise is still there.... At 20mph is is really loud ....... I called the dealership and gave them the cars vin # and was told that it had numerous open recalls on it Engine, Rear Control Arms, shifter cable and something to do with the brake pedal........
So I must get it there this week.......... Has anyone else experienced these noises in there sonatas ?
Thank you in advance
Update from Mar 20, 2017: Took my 2011 Sonata 2.0T to dealer in Dec 2016 for all recalls,(76,900 miles) they "tested" the engine and said it was within the normal " decibel/noise levels" and didnt "qualify" for engine replacement, well today March 20 2017 at (79,955 miles) , it stalled on the highway and I called AAA they towed me to my mechanic and he tested it and it is SEIZED !
