CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Sonata has a seriously defective engine that seizes without warning. It was awarded the dubious honor of being the first CarTalk / CarComplaints Turd of the Week in late September 2015.

A class action lawsuit was filed in May 2015 against Hyundai that claims the 2.4L Sonata engine is defective. More info here.

2011 Sonata 2.0T. No braking pressure when cold, slow to stop until car warms up, noise is heard from what sounds like the ABS pump or power brake assist pump. Took to a dealer and was told the noise is a strut tower bar and motorworld group in wilkes-barre refuses to look any father on this issue unless I pay to have the tower bar removed and rechecked. I have 1500 miles on the car and dealer is refusing to correctly diagnose issues unless I pay for it. This is a 2011 Sonata 2.0T SE. The sound is definitely not the tower bar as I can remake the sound on other cars after using brakes very hard. These brakes are very soft and the noise is easy heard and sounds like a pump and a vibration in the pedal.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the steering wheel suddenly locked up which caused her to collide into two wooden posts and signs in a grassy area. The brakes would not engage when the contact attempted to stop the vehicle; a hole in the ground stopped the vehicle. The contact also noticed that the seat belt did not tighten to secure her during the incident. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The contact stated that she previously had the vehicle into the dealer for recall 10V426000 (steering:gear box:shaft sector) on October 8, 2010. The vehicle was at the dealer at the time of the complaint. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 4,000.
