I bought this car in September of 2019 with 68,000 miles. It had no wrecks and all of its service/oil changes were done on time. The car was very clean. In late January of 2020, and with 70,000 miles, the engine failed and the car stopped while I was driving it. I could not get it to restart. The mechanic said the car dropped a valve.
Purchased the 2010, 1 owner, piece of crap Hyundai Sonata in August 2019 from Hoover Hyundai with only 68,000 miles on it. Didn't need anything fancy as I emphasized that I needed something reliable for my work as a Home Health Physical therapist. I was assured that this car fit the bill. The service records appeared to be in good order. I changed the oil myself just as I frequently dd with my '07 Honda Civic that I drove for over 300,000 miles. Now that was a real, quality car.
Started the piece of crap Hyundai and left for work one morning without apparent trouble but noticed a buzzing vibration within 11 blocks from my home. I stopped at a red light in 3 more blocks (35th ST) and could tell the sound was associated with the engine as it varied with engine RPM. Checked the dashboard - no warning lights other than the windshield wipe fluid light that has been on ever since I purchased the car even though it has fluid in the reservoir. The sound rose and then stopped as I accelerated with the change of the light. Continued to check the dashboard but no warning lights for the next 7 blocks where I entered the on ramp for the Red Mountain Expressway. As I merged with fast traffic, I looked again and saw the red engine oil pressure light come on. Without immediate place to pull over I was forced to continue and the engine died within 1 mile.
Had the car towed to Hoover Hyundai, where I had purchased the piece of crap. There I noted engine oil on the bed of the tow truck. It took Hoover Hyundai over 48 hours to call me and tell me that I needed a new engine. I guess they were busy repairing other piece of crap Hyundais. They couldn't tell me what caused the failure of the piece of crap engine and said that they could tear into it but that it would cost me $1,000.00 to find out. What a piece of crap!
Car just died for a second time while driving at 10-20 miles per hr. It looks like there is no fix and Hyundai is not taking accountability. Has anyone found a way to convince their dealership to get this done at no cost?
I went to two different dealers over the last month but they were unable to fix the problem which is: engine won't start on very hot days after a 30-plus mile drive until the engine cools down for 30-45 minutes. it's happened 3 different times over the last month. The starter works fine but engine won't turn over.
This is the second time this fairly new car has stranded me. The last time it wouldn't start in the driveway and the dealer said it was a case of bad gas. Now I think that story was unlikely. Anyone else had this problem?
