Hyundai cars such, as the Sonata, have oil leak problems. In 2012 there was an oil leak at less than 50,000 miles, one year later the battery light started to come on, battery is one year old and AAA checked the Battery and found nothing wrong with the battery. Took the car to the dealer who diagnosed the problem as follows:
1- Valve oil leak that is the front valve
2- Oil splash over the alternator and that led to damage of the alternator.
Contacted Hyundai to pay for the cost and the response I received it was over the 60,000 mile. In spite of evidence that oil leak is common problem with the Sonata as clearly evident by the fact that one year later the car showed another oil leak. Oil leaks are slow and progress slowly and Hyundai knows that but will deny it. It cost me close to $1000. The cost of maintaining this car is higher than a more expensive initial cost for a better quality car. In other words, do not get fooled by the warranty, the quality is not there. Unless Hyundai improves the quality of their cars, this will be my first and last.
