Sonata GL 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Rear caliper locked up so replaced caliper, rotor and pads that were worn to metal. Later locked up again since real cause of problem was short section of brake tube at the wheel was clogging because of narrowed orifice at the crimped metal tube to rubber tube transition. Factory defect but Hyundai will not recall.

Sonata Limited 4 cylindar

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,850 miles

I bought a new 2009 Hyundai Sonata. At 44,500 miles, the rear brakes began dragging and burning. This was November 2013. When I picked it up, I was amazed to find there was no charge. However, there was no paperwork associated with it either. (CLUE). That took care of the issue for about 10,000 miles. February 2015, I noticed the same issue. I took it to the dealership and the service man said he could find no record of previous repairs and this was not covered by the extended warranty (what is?). They said the pads are ruined and the calibers are stuck. They want (their estimate) $1,200 to fix the rear brakes.

This was my first and LAST Hyundai. Was looking to buy an SUV - looks like Toyota gets my business from now on.
