So at 61.5 K, while at a stoplight, the clutch suddenly began grabbing and the car lurching against the brake. The clutch hydraulics has failed. I was able to nurse the car into a Hyundai dealer 2 days (5 miles) later.
Dealer advises car is 1.5K out of "America's Best Warranty", and the $135.00 slave cylinder requires the tranny to be dropped. Further they say that the leaking hydraulic fluid "soaked" the clutch disk/pressure plate ($750.00) and will need replacement too. Also, the flywheel ($1350.00) may need replacement as well. Returning to the dealer once the tranny is dropped, and taking pictures, I authorized the slave cylinder and clutch disc/pressure plate to be replaced, but I would "live with" the existing flywheel. Cost was 3 days, and $1950.00, which I advised the dealer I would "fight" with HYUNDAI Customer Support to recover.
Hyundai Customer Support advised that SOMETIMES, as goodwill, the will extend the warranty up to 10%. This encouragement was shortlived however, as after reviewing my claim, they denied ANY responsibility in the matter, primarily because I had not had the vehicle serviced at any HYUNDAI dealership in the last 1-1/2 years that I owned the car. I told them the car did not NEED any scheduled service (except oil changes done elsewhere) but that information was ignored.
