Hyundai Sonata 2006 <80,000 miles, airbag light comes on due to short in passenger side seat belt. Seat belt is still functionable. If the light is on the airbags are disable- safety issue. This is a safety issue that must be addressed by Hyundai. Call Hyundai consumer relations at 1-800-633-5151 and file a formal complaint so that this can be escalated. If consumers choose not to fix the seat belt for $400 this become a safety hazard!

On my 2006 Sonata the sensor in the drivers side seat belt breaks, turning on air bag notification light. I took the car into crain Hyundai of North little rock and they stated this is a common issue with this model and it wasn't covered under warranty according to the mechanic at crain this will stop the seatbelt from working properly and it will turn off the air bag. This is two major safety violations. 1 seat belt not functioning properly, 2 the air bag is now turned off. This makes the car worthless as far as resale value and a major safety issue.

I own a Hyundai Sonata 2006, and just before it got to 80,000 miles, the air bag light suddenly went on. It has stayed on for a week as of 9/25/10. I looked it up online and it seems many people have had this same issue with the Hyundai Sonatas and it is very costly to fix. I think this is a safety issue that should be looked into with Hyundai, if it happens repeatedly.

My airbag light came on. I took the car to the dealership/service garage and was told that there was a problem with a sensor in my seatbelt/airbag and it cost $400 to correct. I was unable to pass the va safety inspection with the light on, so I had to pay for the repair. Sixteen months later, the light came on again! I returned to the service dept, they ran a diagnostic and told me that the same problem had occurred. I refused to pay for the exact same repair. This is obviously a problem with the Hyundai brand and they should fix it. I searched the internet and found that numerous other individuals are experiencing the same problem. Please help! must I be expected to pay $400 to correct this problem every year in order to pass inspection? this is not fair and Hyundai should make this right. I'm told that my airbags won't deploy if I become involved in an accident.

I have had to replace the seat belt buckles on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3 times in 85,000 miles, twice on the passenger side and once on the driver side. The problem is the sensor that triggers the airbag light and prevents the airbag from deploying. It is an unusual defect and to have it happen 3 times would indicate to me that there is a manufacturer's defect. I am contacting you because of the safety nature of the problem. I have been told that the airbag will not deploy on the side of the defective seat belt sensor. The first occurrence of this was with less then 8,000 miles on the car.

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. After starting the ignition the "air bag" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The front driver-side seat belt was replaced for the malfunction. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on two separate occasions for identical failures, and the front passenger seat belt assembly was replaced. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

The airbag light wouldn't go out and the dealer has indicated that there was a failure in the sensor in the drivers side seat belt which will cost $400 to replace. Have never had a problem like this in any other car I have every driven. Due to cost have chosen to drive without a airbag on the drivers side.

Airbag light / problem. Took car to car pros Hyundai, seattle wa on Aurora. Advised them my airbag light all of a sudden stays on. They advised me that it was seat belt issue and some wiring under the floor board. Hyundai advised me that the air bags wouldn't work if I was in a accident. Asked them if this was under warranty, they said only up to 60, 000 miles. And my car is over that. I advised why aren't all seat belt functions and airbags covered through the life of the car. Doesn't make sense. Its the law that I have to wear a seatbelt, well it should be a law that the seat belts are working properly and airbags for the life of vehicle.

Purchased a 2006 Hyundai Sonata in 2008. Airbag light continuously glowed on dashboard. Contacted Hyundai dealership, as Hyundai has a recall regarding airbags on 2006 Sonatas. Was informed by dealership that car was 2000 miles past manufacturer's warranty. Required authorization of payment to dealership to have airbag problem inspected at a cost of $324.65 not including parts or additional labor. Had vehicle repaired at different repair shop. Replaced front passenger side seat belt assembly and sensor. Airbag light is now off. Have retained all parts for inspection and forwarded complaint to Hyundai motor co.

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light remains illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure indicates that the air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash. Two months ago, she took the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair. The first time, the dealer reset the light, and the second time they replaced the sensor in the passenger seat. The air bag light has illuminated again within the last thirty days and is still lit. The Hyundai dealer stated that they could not repair the failure, but would like the contact to drive 200 miles so that an inspection could be performed. The manufacturer stated that they will send out a customer service satisfaction notice for all customers experiencing air bag failure. They further stated that they will develop a remedy because they are unsure of the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 25,000. Updated 7/3/08 when the brakes are applied the seat belt will release and not lock. When the accelerator is applied, the seat belt will not release.
