In October 2017, I noticed the paint was bubbling on the hood of my car and within a week the bubble broke and a dime size section of paint came off. I was worried about rust so I brought it to a body shop and they said it was a bad paint job (as the primer underneath was in pristine condition) and it was probably under warranty. I checked with Hyundai and they said no, they only cover up to 3 years. My car was 3 years and 5 months old. I think this is ridiculous. I have never had a vehicle paint, chip, bubble or peel, that was less than 10 years old. Now the paint missing is softball size and other areas on the hood are starting to bubble. I don't see how they can justify this. I had hoped to have this vehicle a long time, but because it looks so horrendous, I plan to get rid of it very soon. I will NEVER buy another Hyundai if they do not stand behind their product. If everyone complains, maybe they will be forced to do something about it.
Other than the engine issue I had a few years back, I have not had any major issues with my Hyundai.
This past Fall, I noticed a paint chip on the front portion of my hood. At the time I though a rock was kicked up from the road and caused it. Since that time however, I have noticed more of these paint chips; which are growing in size. The majority of them are at the front hood area, with one other at the front portion of the hood.
Update from Jan 16, 2022: As of January 2022, the paint continues to slowly chip. Due to an accident I had my hood repainted myself, since the vehicle was in for the repairs anyway.
A claim to Hyundai resulted in it not being their problem. Hyundai is one of the more difficult automobile manufacturers to deal with (and take responsibility for faulty issues).
I’ve spoken to 3 different supervisors at Hyundai America who all have expressed that they are aware of the chipping paint problem with the pearl paint. After going to the dealership and submitting the claim, Hyundai will only pay for half of the paint job. The entire job was around $1500 and Hyundai will only pay half? When they know it is a defect in their paint.
I cannot believe they would rather lose a client than to pay another $700. It makes no sense. I have taken such good care of my car and just paid it off. I was planning on keeping it a few more years and then trading it in for a new Hyundai. My son is in the market for a car and considered a Hyundai. But none of us will be buying one if this is how we are treated.
I am concerned about the paint being chipped as it is starting to rust.
Hyundai says they will only pay half of the cost to repaint. This is even though they admit there is an issue with the pearl paint jobs on many vehicles.
