The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle jolted and the rpms decreased to 5 mph without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred numerous times. The failure caused another vehicle to slightly bump the contact's vehicle because the speed independently decreased to 20 mph. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer (Hyundai of petaluma 1230 auto center dr, petaluma, ca, 94952) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to poor maintenance. The engine was repaired and paid for by the contact. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V226000 (engine). The contact received the recall notification in June of 2017. The contact sought reimbursement from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

There are two separate incidents where I experienced complete engine failure in my sante fe sport 2.0T. Invoice number ' 359131 first occurred at 47,031 miles. On February 16, 2017 I was driving my vehicle with my son on the freeway when the check engine light appeared and my vehicle began jerking and making a loud clicking tapping sound slowing me down almost immediately. I lost power in my steering, vehicle was hard to maneuver. Hyundai attempted to repair the problem returned my vehicle and charged me partially for repair. Made contact with them about repair being a misdiagnosis as they first blamed the incident on air filter, serpentine belt, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaning, they replaced my fuel pump and engine block at no cost but charged me the other items. Work order number 201868 the second incident occurred at 50,897 miles on July 14, 2017 I was traveling across states from el paso, Texas to Colorado springs, Colorado with my 5 yr old son and my husband. We were traveling North on highway I-25 when our vehicle began to lose power and starting making the loud vibrations and tapping sounds like it had done the first time about 3,000 miles ago when I had the engine replaced. We were over taking a semi truck on the road when this happened we were barely able to recover our lane and pull off to the side of the road as we slowed down almost immediately the semi was able to brake and avoid rear ending us. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere about an hour away from alburquerque, New Mexico. This was terrifying for my family and I. we had very little time to react and find a safe place to pull over. I believe my vehicle was not inspected properly through their quality control personnel. If there is debris inside my engine and it has continuously presented itself it will eventually travel through the rest of my engine ex. Turbo seals bearings.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and would not restart when prompted. The vehicle was towed to tustin Hyundai motors of tustin, California where the engine was replaced with a re-manufactured engine. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V226000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer stated that the failure was directly related to the recall. Furthermore, the contact stated that there was an oil flow restriction, which caused high oil consumption, due to the premature bearing wear within the engine. After the initial repair, the contact heard a clacking noise coming from the engine on more than one occasion due to a lack of oil. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the re-manufactured engine would have to fail completely before authorization of a new engine would be approved. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

On Dec 18th driving on a county road outside of gunnison, co my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport was in motion and a clicking noise began in engine. After ~1 hr and after checking fluid levels a loud pop in the engine caused it to cease functioning while in motion (~45-55 mph) leaving my stranded in dangerously cold temperatures that night. I was forced to have the vehicle towed to dealership where, with no loaner cars and a 6 week wait on a new engine, was forced to purchase another vehicle from Hyundai with no explanation of what happened to the engine. A few weeks ago I received a notice from Hyundai corporate stating there is a known problem and a safety recall (NHTSA campaign number: 17V-226). It is clear that Hyundai knew of this problem and not only did not reimburse any expenses related to the engine issue and put me in a situation requiring me to purchase another vehicle from them.

My car is stating to show signs of loss of power and hesitation as noted as some of the affects from this recall. I did notice this same type of actions back in September, and my check engine light came on and my car completely died on me and was jerking and hesitant when it would run. I took it in for repair to phil long Hyundai of motor city and paid $624.03 for repairs, and not the same actions are occurring. I would like action to be taken prior to a complete stall and would like to request to be reimbursed for the $624.03 I paid out back in September 2016 for repairs.
