On Nov 18/19, the glass sunroof in my 2019 Santa Fe XL exploded/shattered while I was driving south on I-75 in southern Michigan. There were no vehicles near my vehicle when the incident happened. Also, there were no overpasses. I took delivery of the vehicle in August/19.

I am a resident of Canada. I emailed Hyundai Canada on Dec 2/19 to ask for compensation. The auto reply indicated they would reply ''shortly''. I was very patient and after 3 weeks I sent another email on Dec 23/19 asking where is their reply to my Dec 2/19 email. The auto reply to that email indicated they would reply ''shortly''. I had enough so I called their customer care number asking where is the ''shortly'' reply to my Dec 2/19. I was told Hyundai warranty coverage is not applicable. This was followed up with an email 30 minutes later. Hyundai's communication skills are disgusting and I emailed that to them.

The Hyundai car dealership I went to for an estimate was out to lunch on providing me an estimate. I was told they need 6 to 7 hours to assess/estimate the damage, 6 to 7 hours to replace the glass and I would need to rent a car for possibly a week while they wait for the parts and then install. I ended up at an auto glass centre that gave me an estimate, cleaned up the shattered glass and taped a plastic cover over the sunroof so rain would not enter. This took about an hour. The installation a few days later took less than 40 minutes.

Words cannot express the displeasure I have with Hyundai. Customer satisfaction is a not a priority but marketing their faulty products is number 1.

Also, on Nov 20/19, I spoke to the salesperson who sold me the car and explained what happened and perhaps they can assist me on what I should do with Hyundai and how I should proceed. To date, which is nearly 5 weeks ago, no return phone call.

Be careful of Hyundai and their dealers. They are looking out for themselves and it's all about the money and how they can take advantage of the customer.
