We purchased this 2015 Santa Fe on 10/24/19. In Sept 2021 a check engine light came on. I immediately took it to the dealership. They plugged in a device & told me that Cylinder #3 was misfiring & I needed to take it to a Hyundai dealership. I did that & they inspected it & said it was fine but if the light came on again I should bring it in. It happened again but it took a couple weeks to get an appt for my car to be checked. When we took it in I also told them the heater was no longer working. They told me it was a bad thermostat & that would be covered under my extended warranty.
My car has been in the shop since Dec. 15th (3.5 weeks)!! At first they told me it was a bad cylinder that needed to be replaced, then a week or so later they told me it was the head gasket & it was leaking into the cylinder. It took them several weeks to get a new head gasket. Today I was told that the head gasket was bad & that they found that it is also warped & they have to check to see if the engine also has water in the oil & they found metal shavings, so now they are saying the engine needs to be replaced! They are not sure if my warranty policy will cover this also.
They had the car in Sept & did not find the problem. There were no signs for us to see either, so how were we supposed to know there was a problem if they checked it in Sept & didn't find the problem. And that's why I took it in in the first place. We are Seniors & that's why we purchased the extended warranty at the dealership where we purchased the car (which cost us $2395.00). I have only put 27,000 miles on it in 2 years. We also paid $299.00 for a plan at the dealership that covers oil changes for life & Lifetime Engine Guarantee... This is very frustrating....& my car is still in the shop!
