My wife purchased the Hyundai Santa Fe in 2013 brand new in April 2013.
While on I-85 in Henderson, NC she noticed that the air conditioner was not cooling properly. So she went to a mechanic shop "Tony's" off of I-85 in Henderson, NC, while she was traveling from the Charlotte NC area with our 14 yr old daughter. While at Tony's he is also the owner of the business. He put freon in the vehicle. He also checked the oil and told my wife that there was no oil in the vehicle. My wife had just had the oil changed that morning at a mechanic shop in Charlotte since she was traveling to see her mother.
Tony who is the owner in Henderson, NC added oil and called the the Hyundai Dealership near Charlotte and told the Hyundai Dealership that there was no oil in the vehicle. Tony told the Hyundai Dealership that he had seen the same issue with no oil in other Hyundai vehicles such as the Elantra , Sonatas and other Santa Fe's. Tony was upset and told my wife that the engine could have blown and thank goodness that the a/c went out or she wouldn't have known that her vehicle was low on oil since she had just had it changed that morning.
The Hyundai dealership told my wife to come into the dealership every 500 miles for an oil consumption test. He advised that she is not to add the oil and the Hyundai Dealership will add the oil. My wife went to the Hyundai Dealership on four different occasions. Two weeks ago the last oil consumption test was completed and the dealership said they would submit their findings to Hyundai Corporate. So after 2 months of not knowing of what was going to happen my wife called Hyundai Dealership on 10/23/20 and was advised that Hyundai was not going to repair the engine and that she would have to keep adding oil in her vehicle.
They stated that oil consumption does not warrant an engine repair and they know that it would be an inconvenience but she will have to keep adding oil to the vehicle. This should not be a solution riding around with oil in your vehicle.
