Our check engine light came on but was not flashing. We had to wait a few days to get the vehicle in to be checked. We were told it should be safe to drive since the light was not flashing. By the time we took it in, it was not running smoothly, but seemed to splutter a bit. After dealership checked it out, my husband was shown the problem. They removed the motor cover. The foam backing of the cover was chewed up some. Under the cover, rodents had made a large nest. The rodents had chewed up all of the wiring and more.

The engine is going to be removed so they can get to it all to replace everything. We were told we could not drive it at all until it was fixed. We could have had all kinds of very serious malfunctions. We are blessed that we had not! That was yesterday. We got a rental and came home.

Today I learned it has been an ongoing problem in a number of foreign car brands. California actually had a class action suit brought against Hyundai because of so many having this problem. We need to get this out there, and if enough do, hopefully there will be a recall on all cars having these parts made with soy coverings. It is my understanding they will replace all the wiring with the same, as they have not yet been forced to change what the coverings are made of.

Our car has always been garage kept. Due to our home being damaged by a hurricane, we have been staying at a hotel for weeks. It is by a very wooded area and believe the rats are there. If you have a Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, or Subaru, please be aware of this problem. I hope these car manufacturers are forced to do something about this. Very dangerous and it needs to be addressed. If they don't get rid of the soy, we will continue to have the rodent problem.
