CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe has a problem with the engine stalling while driving. Both our data & the NHTSA's complaint data show a significant defect trend at low mileage.
In a 2-page letter sent August 2014 to Santa Fe owners, Hyundai claims the engine stalling only occurs under a "specific set of operating conditions".
However a class action lawsuit filed around the same time details multiple claims from Sante Fe owners that claim the engine stalling happens at any time, under any conditions.
Broken left front coil spring. Cut down to the cords on the inside wall of the tire. Firestone found the problem during a routine alignment just before the spring completely cut thru the tire, and had them replace both front wheels with new struts. Also had to replace all new tires.
Noticed a clanking noise in left front area. After investigation it was clear the LF coil spring was broken at 3 points. No rust or corrosion on the coil spring or the strut itself. This is a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited with 105,000 miles on it. The car has always been maintained and babied as I am a car guy owning classic cars.
The breaks are a DIRECT RESULT of bad steel, not corrosion. This is absolutely ridiculous happening to a vehicle in the condition of mine.
I contacted the local Hyundai dealer Laurel Hyundai in Johnstown, PA and was told there was no recall on the spring, and it was out of warranty.
They told me there was a recall to install a plastic protector around the spring to protect the tire if the spring would break. Why would Hyundai basically acknowledge the problem by installing a plastic sleeve, if there is not a common problem with the springs?
My wife drives a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T loaded to the max that I purchased new for her. I will not entertain the idea of purchasing another Hyundai in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
