CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe apparently has a problem with the engine stalling while driving.
In a 2-page letter to Santa Fe owners from August 2014, Hyundai claims the engine stalling only occurs under a "specific set of operating conditions".
However a class action lawsuit filed around the same time details multiple claims from Sante Fe owners that claim the engine stalling happens at any time, under any conditions.
Although the model year range in the lawsuit is 2010-2012, the stalling complaint trend hasn't shown up in our data for the 2010 model year. Both the 2011 & 2012 Santa Fe model years DO show a significant defect trend of the engine stalling.
Currently we're not rating the 2010 Santa Fe as "bad" or "poor". Just be aware of this potentially serious problem.
Second transmission we had put in the car. Went through 2 Hyundai transmissions in 160,000 miles. What a shame. Lost over 15K in purchasing this car and repairs. Sold for only a couple hundred. Clearly a manufacture issue.
In 2011 After having only 1,000 miles on car had to replace transmission through dealer. Now 2016, For over a year there was an on and off slight clunk when you would let up on gas or putting in reverse, nothing concerning but definitely something not right. September 2016 I was pulling out of the driveway and it had a larger clunk than normal. drove car home and parked all day, later in afternoon backing out of driveway another even louder clunk. didn't make it 1 mile down the road when it came to a dead stop after making an extremely loud noise like metal shift teeth not lining up or the whole bottom of car dragging on ground but metal on metal.
Need to replace transmission again, now not under warranty so it is out of pocket.. 2 transmissions in 5 years something is wrong with the transmissions.
