CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe apparently has a problem with the engine stalling while driving.
In a 2-page letter to Santa Fe owners from August 2014, Hyundai claims the engine stalling only occurs under a "specific set of operating conditions".
However a class action lawsuit filed around the same time details multiple claims from Sante Fe owners that claim the engine stalling happens at any time, under any conditions.
Although the model year range in the lawsuit is 2010-2012, the stalling complaint trend hasn't shown up in our data for the 2010 model year. Both the 2011 & 2012 Santa Fe model years DO show a significant defect trend of the engine stalling.
Currently we're not rating the 2010 Santa Fe as "bad" or "poor". Just be aware of this potentially serious problem.

This problem started about two weeks after we bought our brand new 2010 hyundai Santa Fe. It happens usually when the engine is cold,at about 20-40 kms per hour..the engine revs up very high (not grabbing the gear) and then is just SLAMS in to gear. It feels like the bottom is going to fall out of the car. I reported it to hyundai , had the car looked at , they said they could not find the problem. At each servicing , I told them again.. each time told they could not see a problem. Last visit to the service dept they finally found it , said they would have to replace the transmission. I asked to make sure it was going to be a NEW transmission since the car has done it from the start and it only has 21000 km on it..they say no. It is Hyundai's policy that they only put in re-maunufactured transmissions in .. I am livid. Please send me any info or ideas on how I can proceed here. I would not mind if the car was 5 yrs old ... but it is still very new and came this way. I am gearing up for a fight here I think ... any tips on how to handle this?
Thank you for your help.
