Since I change my oil myself, I noticed significant corrosion on the oil pan about a year ago. The problem is in Hyundai's design. The exhaust is located so close to the oil pan that the heat from the exhaust pipe accelerates the corrosion. The corrosion is located only in those areas adjacent the exhaust pipe / catalytic converter. The pan is leaking now. Could easily have caused all oil to leak out quickly resulting in engine failure due to lack of oil.
We had our oil changed and my husband noticed he was leaking oil on the ground. Called our service dept. that changes our oil, we took the car out to be checked. The oil pan is rusted through and has to be replaced. I called Hyundai Corp. and they advised it would be covered under our warranty corrosion if a Hyundai dealership says it was caused by "salt". If they decide it wasn't caused by salt on the roads we have to pay $262.00 at our dealership to get it fixed. What a bitch, we have to have Hyundai inspect our car and do the repair work for it to be covered under the warranty!
