There is this annoying cranking noise or clunking noise under the hood, especially in the summer months. It started last summer, of 2007, but it stopped during the winter months (when it has been below 40 degrees). But, now as the past couple of days have been in the 60's, the noise is starting up again.
The noise mostly happens as you are slowing down or stopping. We had this checked at the Hyundai dealer last year and they reported that it was the air compressor kicking on. Its a loud air compressor if it is that. It definitely doesn't sound right, and it is louder than it was last year. I am hoping this isn't a sign of the future where we'll have countless more problems with this car. I've heard mixed things about Hyundai, but my impression was that they have improved and were a good company to buy from. We'll have to see what happens.
Otherwise, the Santa Fe is a wonderful car.
