Santa Fe 6-cyl Diesel

The Hyundai Santa Fe was parked without the key in the ignition on a slight incline. My 7 year old grandson got in the vehicle first. He knocked the vehicle out of park. When the vehicle started rolling, I tried to get in but I couldn't with it rolling. It hit a van and my drivers door caught on the front of the van pushing my drivers door completely back. I was caught between the two vehicles. My 4 year old grandkids (twins) could have been behind the Santa Fe or another child since we were at a ball field. Now we notice the Santa Fe can be easily pulled out of park without the key in the ignition.

Santa Fe 6-cyl

  • 69,000 miles
While traveling on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, I attempted to deactivate the cruise control by tapping on the brake pedal. The cruise control did not turn off even with holding the brake down harder. I was able to shut off the cruise control using the off switch on the steering wheel. Upon exiting the interstate and reaching my destination, I could not get the shifter to go into park. After shutting the car off and on several times, I got it to go into park. It has only done this one time and never happened since then. Fortunately, I was driving and not my teenage daughter who normally drives this vehicle. Her lack of experience may have caused her to panic when the cruise control failed to deactivate with the brake pedal.

Brake light switch malfunction caused vehicle transmission shifter to be stuck in drive or reverse. Vehicle transmission shifter could not be shifted into park. Malfunction also caused electronic stability control to shut off and cruise control did not deactivate when the brake pedal was depressed. Brake light switch was replaced in 2010 due to malfunction with this new brake light switch, which also malfunctioned. Hyundai claimed vehicle was not part of recall id# 78947 for service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light. However, again, brake light switch was replaced in 2010 with another malfunctioning brake light switch. Updated 10/31/12 updated 11/1/2012

While my car was off and parked in my garage (with no keys in ignition), my 6 year old son was able to move the gear shift from "park" to "neutral/drive". he later showed me how he used "both his hands and pulled really hard." My car rolled out of the garage, crossed the busy street and into the neighbors drive way (with my son in it!!!!!!). it then started to roll forward towards me and the street....until I could open the door and slam my foot on the brakes. I was unable to get the gear back into the "park" position and had to be pushed back into my garage. I then inserted the key to place the car into "park."

While coming to a stop the car started to accelerate on it's own. I put more pressure on the brake, but would not hold, I put the car into neutral and turned off the key. When I restarted it was ok but my air bag light was on. When I got home I parked and pressed the key remote to lock, the doors locked but the lights did not flash. I then restarted the car, shut it of and relocked. This time the lights flashed but after about 30 sec. The car alarm would sound. I again restarted and shut it off, relocked and again the alarm. I then disconnected the battery and reconnected. Everything seems to be working properly now and the air bag light also went out.
