I have a 2022 Santa Cruz limited with 12695 miles on it while on a trip out of state (June 1st) engine decelerated and quit in no mans land western Nebraska. Had to tow approx. 170 miles to nearest dealer in Grand Island Nebraska. Dealer checked engine next morning (June 2nd) and found camshafts not turning when crankshaft turning. Dealer said engine needs to be replaced. Hyundai keeps asking dealer for more pictures and info which dealer responds back to, and dealer said a valve went thru piston also. It is now 2 weeks later and Hyundai has still not approved repair. We had to pay for partial towing (over 100miles) to dealer and pay our way home to Arkansas. We are without a vehicle and our Santa Cruz is sitting 620 miles away in limbo. So much for the best warranty in the business which is only as good as Hyundai honors it. This is a nightmare and totally unacceptable. We had the transmission recall completed previously already.
Update from Jun 22, 2023: On June 19th Hyundai finally approved engine to be replaced with new engine (17 days wasted). The dealer can now go ahead and order new engine. Dealer said they ordered engine but said it will take 10-15 days to procure ( hoping one is readily available), 5-7 days to ship it to them, and then installation. After that I was told I will get reunited with my vehicle. I was told by somebody that means they will send to nearest dealer to me in Arkansas where I live and that is Dealer where I bought in Springfield , MO. ( I'm not holding my breath). I am out $2100.00 in towing and transportation expenses to home, still without a replacement vehicle, and had to cancel another trip we've had planned for a while. I really liked my Cruz until this happened and thought Hyundai would do a lot better than this for a low miles nearly new vehicle under warranty. The dealer in Nebraska has been good and is doing their best but can do nothing until Hyundai approved. Hyundai should have gotten the engine out immediately and had it taken apart and analyzed to find out why the catastrophic failure.
Update from Jul 13, 2023: A new engine was finally put in on July 10th completed and test drove on July11th unfortunately was told Turbo is shot now and had to order new one and is on back order. Dealer said It will be 2 to 3 weeks or more now to complete. Then it will be another week or two to transport to closest dealer to me which is 2 hours away. My Santa Cruz broke down on June 1st. Every time we say can't get any worse it does!
