A foul mildew smell developed from the A/C vent/unit. The dealership said that water condensation from the A/C unit can get trapped in the unit and develop mold/mildew. Something the dealership claims is "typical" in hot and humid climate such as Florida. They said it was not covered under warranty. Their initial proposal/solution was a $125 A/C unit cleaning (non-refundable) that may or may not resolve the issue. If it did not, then they would have to "dig" further into the unit and look for a factory defect (1-2 days of work).
After I declined the $125 non-refundable procedure, they sprayed disinfectant in the AC/vent intakes as a possible solution. It did not resolve the issue obviously. We've lived in Florida for over 20+ years and owned more than 10 cars and have NEVER had this issue. I do know that it was recently discovered that the Napa Leather headrest were causing foul/stinky issue due to a flaw in the leather manufacturing process--fix was complete replacement of the headrest. My problem is definitely not that issue and the A/C still produces a mildew smell!!
