This is the second occurrence of the exact same problem. Animals have eaten the wires in the exact same location twice. The first time it happened, the car would not start and displayed a HEV issue. I called Hyundai roadside assistance to have it towed to the dealer. They told my rats had chewed the wires, it was not covered by any of the warranties I had purchased from the dealer (and I got every one they had, so I would not have to worry about anything) and that I could use my car insurance to cover it.
The problem was the wire chewed came hardwired out of a part that cost over $1000.00 + labor to replace and even though there was a good 6-7 inches of wire sticking out, it was chewed on the other side by the connecter that clipped into a socket. I could not buy a .75 cent connector, so I had to buy a $1,000.00 part instead. I decided to file insurance claim, pay my $500.00 deductible and be done with it. I was told by the dealer when it was fixed to get the car. I came and saw the rear end now had gouges in the rear body, license plate and bumper. I said "What happened here?!" They said " What, oh that, it didn't happen here." (That's a different story which i have not cooled down from yet.)
So, new part with new wires is in. The part worked fine, I wanted to keep it since I paid for it, but for some reason it was gone and could not be found. Now I face the situation again....
I have studied on the new manufacturing materials. It looks great in a boardroom. Environmentalist love it, I'm sure. The production of wire coating with food based products is great idea on one hand. Making panelling and other parts with sugar, soy and other items makes sense in an eco friendly world. Now, it also looks like a buffet to rodents. Rodents already liked to chew wires and climb into car engines for shelter and whatever a rodent looks for. Now we make our cars from food!
Why! Why are we making our cars from food! The car company does not cover rodent damage, yet they they have what amounts to candy canes and jerky running all over the vehicle! I am a disabled vet. I am standing in line for benefits and being denied for some because they are too busy to help me or they don't have enough funding to help me. I can't keep claiming rodent damage on insurance.
Why should I pay higher premiums because I own a chuckwagon for critters?! I think the manufacturer should come up with a fix and help us in the mean time. It's not like I don't try... I put an extension cord with an electric pest repelled where I park. I poured hot sauce and red chille flakes on the ground around where I park. I can't afford essential oils to spread around for protection. Who would have thought of this problem when buying a car, that is it made of edible product?
