We got in the car after shopping and the A/C compressor would not come on, I opened the hood after getting home and found wiring damage from some gremlin. All of the wiring to the A/C Compressor, headlight on the drivers side, Pressure switch for A/C System, etc. Took it to the dealer as we had the 10 year 100 mile warranty, to find that it did not cover this. took them two days to get the needed parts and make the repairs. In learning the new smart car I discovered the parking assist did not work after bumping a curb. AAAAH!!!
OK well I'll get it checked at 1st oil change. Took it in this morning. The Service Department called and informed me that rodents had eaten most of the wiring in the front detector /sensors behind the grill and wants another 250 bucks to fix it. I got a little ugly, The vehicle was brought in to make wiring repairs in mid December and now again, or was it not fixed properly the 1st time. I asked him to discuss this issue with the dealership manager, as I have lived at this residence for over seven years and both of my vehicles have been parked in the same place, and have never any issues of any kind...pending his reply.
This has to be something that is used in the wiring insulation/ protective covering that is attracting rodents. Going a little further, the wiring was eaten off right up to the plug/connectors, and the sheeting/ plastic was found in the engine compartment, but no wire or insulation...so the rodents were after the wire. THIS is a manufacture issue, and the specs/materials need to be changed in the wiring insulation and Hyundai needs to make this issue covered under initial warranty., and come up with spray on solution until the wiring can be changed or treated at the factories / assembly plants.
Update from May 25, 2016: My dealership reimbursed me for this fix as they informed me that peanut oil was used in the manufacturing of the wiring making it very attractant to rodents
